    Hey

Yesterday I gave my 6 week old pit some raw chicken wings and he ate it up really fast.

I've read a lot about adding new ingredients but not sure to add next as their is such variety and wanted some advice? I was thinking about maybe a raw egg with the shell?

    Thanks

I feed raw (not prey model, pre-mixed). I've fed raw about 10 years w/good results. My 3 year old and 8 year old dogs were both started on raw at 7-8 weeks. Don't forget how important it is for developing pups to eat a balanced diet.

    for later/not now........
whole crushed eggs contain aprox. 12% Protein, 11% Fat and 3.3% Calcium. Egg yolks provide good quality Protein(15%) and up to 31% Fat. there is a limit to the number of whole raw eggs which should be fed. Egg Albumin(whites) contain Phosphate compounds called Avidin which can bind up Biotin, a B-Complex Vitamin and reduce its absorption. Biotin is important for general Metabolism and well being, particularly health of Skin & strenght of Nails.
More than 4 raw eggs daily for 3-4 weeks may cause the deficiency.(dry scaly skin, hair loss, brittle nails and stiffening in the leg muscles.
you can cook/boil/steam the eggs just enough to turn the whites milky look'n but not the yolk, this should destroy the Biotin binding sustance.
the easiest way i found is to fill a cup with boiling water, then crack the egg into it and leave for about 1 minute.
also, although ive never had a problem myself. Egg shells are often covered in bacteria E.coli. etc.. it is good practise to wash the eggs well before use.

No, there is not way for a dog to become biotin deficient from eggs, especially when fed whole. A dog would need to eat nothing but eggs whites and only egg whites for weeks upon weeks to become deficient and by then other issues would have probably compromised the dog much more so than biotin deficiency.
The rest of the egg contains enough biotin to make up for the minute amount compromised by the egg white.
We dont cook any of ours and the dogs eat about an egg a day, also about the washing thing.. never seen a dog wash an egg it found before eating, so we dont do that either.

well thats great pookie. but the info i posted is scientific fact, and if im going to put a dog in comp, id like to know im not going to #uck him up and give him a digestive upset, diarrhoea or even kill him. and i did say more than 4 eggs daily for 3-4 weeks and i don't think many would feed that many but it is good information to be aware of, well atleast i thought it was anyway lol.....
a dog can have a reduced overall immunity during a hard race......this is when the above can come into play.
and pups are usually more suseptable to bacterial gut infections whilst they are young.
also remember some people get there eggs from the store, and some just go out to the chook yard and grab a bunch, some people may even not bother there is shit on the egg etc....just try'n to cover the basis for all.
cheers, now i know for the last 25 + years ive been doing stuff i didn't need to.
    D'S........

Its just the one thing people always bring up when no one is going to feed the amount of egg whites to even have that be an issue... thats all I am saying. People get so freaked out about the biotin oooh the biotin when its a non issue in a proper raw diet, or any diet.. unless of course that diet consists solely of chicken eggs.

Yea I dont bother with chicken shit or not, lol. Id be more worried about the quality of the store bought egg than what could possibly be on the outside of it. My dogs actually love chicken shit and would eat it until they were bloated if we let them. lol

Hey lots of people do stuff they dont NEED to do, does it make it bad or wrong? Nope! Do what'cha do cuz if it works for YOU why change it? Unless of course there is a way to do it better.. :) not saying how I do it is better either, just stating the egg thing isnt as big a deal as its made out to be

  8. as far as eating shit goes , raw green tripe is packed with shite and must be e coli heaven, but dogs love it and thrive on it ,never heard of a raw fed dog being compromised by e coli or salmonella

  9. I never dare to give my dog any raw food because I'm too afraid she will have some upset stomach and that I cannot handle. Although, I've heard that once in a while feeding them raw is beneficial, still I don't want to compromise her health for that. I just make sure her vaccines are well updated, plus she has a regular consultation with her vet to check her up and monitor the kind of food we are normally giving her.

  10. maybe if you fed raw you wouldnt have to bring your dog near a vet

  11. Does boiling chicken take anything away from it nutritionally

lol....I bet your vet loves y'alls "consultations" to tell you absolutely nothing. "Your total is........." lmao

  15. always makes me smile, some people dont mind paying good money to a vet for fuck all but wont feed their animals properly and avoid having to go near the vet in the first place

  16. I never feed raw but do a bit of shooting and always feed boiled chicken or rabbit will start just feeding it raw from now on

I'm a newbie owner and I started feeding raw. I'm from Belize and was wondering if wild birds that we eat here locally can be fed to them as well. Birds like brown ground dove, white winged wild dove, duck, wild turkeys, a variation of quail and wild chicken. Also can wild hog be fed to them??

  18. should be fine if you freeze first, just in case they have any parasites onboard
