its a good idea to be "in tune" with nature and the birds singing to alert is a great idea. I know people that keep Guinea fowl (I think that what kind) to alert them to strangers approaching. What does the guy with the birds rely on when it gets dark though, did they say? Most birds dont make any noise at night while roosting.

25 years ago razors edge actually had few good pit dogs..but I was amazed to see what they are today ..go look at there site online today they look like hams with legs ..But hey they are smarter then me look what they are getting for stud fee's and pups ..And I do not know what they are,.. they look like english bull dog mixed to american bull dog maybe back to pit ..Hopefully you got some old blood

one thing about survival is you need to eat . and that dog is to big to be feeding everyday lee in survival mode . there might not be enough to eat and the dog is to much to really survive very long .

I don't consider peddling pups to be smart nor is it rocket science nor is it new. IE puppy mills aka Glorified Interwbz puppy mills.

Maybe the Argentine Dogo could be something for this task. Although its somewhat big and need alot of food I think ot could be a useful dog hunting and protection wise.. I dont know, theres so many variables and things to consider... Many breeds could do good at this scenario. A medium sized dog thats SMART, have a lot of prey drive and is loyal enough to guard and scare of intruders. That would be the thing imo..

All dogs are nothing until proven other wise. I agree with what D.Dogg said.

A dog can be down from game lines , hence the term game bred, but until they are proven they are nothing but game bred dogs.

after thinking a bit on it how would i feed a dog when im trying to feed myself and a family. id think id want any bulldog under 40 lbs if i could get one. my dogs are catchweight over here and it aint from overfeeding lol.

if that doesnt work id go with the easy keeping and feeding of a dog like a patterdale. they could catch just about all small game and feed me and the family(a small family) and be satisfied with the scraps. for intruders like i said i have them machetes when i run out of ammo that i will wave around out the wood work like a old Apache lol. ill come out with the patterdale bitting there ankles and me right behind yelling out wwawawawawawawawawawwa lol. just kidding not really. i think a small feisty dog would be best in the long run.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback could be a good bet or even the Irish Wolf hound !

If in Africa and your hound can stand toe to toe with a Baboon and Win or even come out alive or buy you some time from a Spotted Hyena or a Lion !

 

I would take an Aussie pig dog or a dog like Lee's little hurtin

i would take my lurcher if she keeps going the way she is half cross bull greyhound. fast enough agility for rabbits small game and plent speed and power for dear etc but more robust and physically tougher than a pure running dog also she is a bit of a deterrent to look at and even though shes a hunting dog starting to show good signs of being protective as i was lamping couple weeks ago and she started growling looked round and a bloke was litterally 20 yards away walking towards me and i was in the middle of a large playing field and didnt see him at all. so any dog for me would first have to provide food for at least itself have some guarding ability but if i was in ustralia or open land of the US then definately a good staghound would ne my choice
