Go buy a piece of 1/2-3/4 inch PVC about 6 feet long from a hardware store. Drill a hole through the end. Tie a piece of rope about 7 feet long through it. Tie a piece of hide to the other end. Voila! You have a flirt pole for a couple of bucks. (All measurements are approximate, adjust them as necessary)

Thanks Benthere. After posting I thought making one might be the best option. I've never used one before. Any Tips?

My pup is about 4 months old and I'm just trying to get him some additional exercise and fun.

I have made a flirtpole out of an old fishing rod, the top part of an allround casting rod. I use the top part and rig a good thick nylon cord trough the loops and just tie a knot on the first loop. Than i pierce a hole trough a tennisball and get the nylon cord trough it, tie it with a few knots and your done. In 4 years i had to tie another tennis ball once on it cause i had let some dogs chew just a little too long on them. Will sort a picture for you.

By the way, 4 months is quite young in my opinion to exercise with a flirtpole. I allways watch that the dog doesn't make too many quick turns to keep his paw and legjoints injury free. A young dog like that might not be that smart to give this type of exercise.

I bought a horse whip at the TSC store a while back and after making one out of pvc i have decided that it was the best way to go..

You can let a young pup play with a flirt pole. Just drag it slowly along the ground and let them catch it really easy and then let them chew on it. Just go really easy and not a lot of it. With adult dogs the same is true. Keep the hide close to the ground as most injuries occur from landing after jumping.

Save your money. If you cant buy pvc pipe get A branch off A tree and tie A rag to the end. It works just as well.

yep, a pvc pipe or a branch off a tree with a rag tied to it will work for sure, I don't even tie anything to it for the adult dogs =)
PVC Pipe will only cost you a couple bucks too, and a branch is free!

I used a fishing pole. Tied a squeaky toy to it. When it hits the ground and squeaks. Drives the dogs wild!

def go with the PVC pipe + rope flirtpole, cheap and easy. I use a tennisball as the bait, my boy goes absolutely mental on it!

I use a telescopic fishing rod from Wal-mart. Retracts in so I place it in my backpack during the walks...I am able to pull it out when needed!

I use a telescopic rod too Flipside and I have a squirrel tail at the end I use it on the bike too.

  19. pvc is awsome! you dont even need a drill , you just run the rope the length of the pipr and tie knots in it . Mine is almost 2 years old and ill let them tug a good bit on it and still works great!

We use the pvc, and use bungie instead of rope... gives them a workout chasing and when they catch it you can let them play tug for more of a work out... costs a bit more since bungie isn't as cheap as rope, but its worth it
