I'm guessing you are the kind of guy that would foolishly let his 50lb Pitbull tackle a 140lb alpha male Gray Wolf in the wild? Pretty ignorant really :D

That's true indeed. There are breeds more suited, and actually bred for the purpose of tackling a large, hungry, aggressive alpha Wolf that is hellbent on killing its prey. Breeds such as the Sivas Kangal Kopegi and Caucasian Ovtcharka that is. It is obvious that captive Wolves are of negated ability and are not suited for fighting in pits. In the wild, is where they dominate.

First of all, its very rare that a wild wolf gets to 140 lbs. Second of all, wolves are not game. Third..I guess you havent read the story of Rapid Roy.

I'm guessing you have traipsed through Alaska and sussed out many of the Wolf packs that roam around? I doubt it. It is not uncommon at all for a male Gray Wolf to reach up to 140lbs.

One would suggest that you are trying to say that i don't know nothing about combat and canines. It is surprising that a supposedly intelligent person, can make such asinine statements. If you have an intelligent logic or theory that could have any sort of credibility, please share it. Because so far, most of the people that have commented on this subject do not have a single clue when it comes to comparing high quality wild Wolves and high quality domestic Dogs.

I guess since you know so much, you have trapped them and weighed them yourself?

No I have not been to Alaska but I have seen them wild in Yellowstone and Idaho. I have also done plenty of reading on wolves, in particular Of Wolves and Men, The Company of Wolves, and The Wolf: The ecology and behavior of an endangered species written by L. David Mech who is the premier authority on the gray wolf in North America. Mech has done plenty of traipsing over the last 30 years and says the average size of a wolf in North America is 80 lbs. In Alaska some males can reach UP TO 140 but not all of them.

So tell me how many pit bulls in Alaska have you seen fighting with 140 lb wild wolves?

HAHAHA. Yeah, the average weight of a Red Wolf or Eastern-type Timberwolf may be along the lines of 80lbs, however, definitely NOT for the far-northern male Gray Wolves. There are plenty of Gray Wolves that weigh WELL above 100lbs. There's also some that have been recorded OVER 150lbs. It is easy for people to sit in their homes and just root for their little pet dogs. It isn't a game.

I have not seen any APBTs fighting with 140lb Gray Wolves. Not many people are foolish enough to end their domestic pets life on short notice in such of a method.

    Thanks.

I have not either, but I have seen them pick apart other 150lb dogs. A wolf will run the first chance it gets to, biology 101, fight or flight, most wild animals would rather run than fight same applies for this alpha grey male, while we will fight to keep his reign, its a quick fight followed by one of them high tailing it out of there, whats that wolf going to do againce something that has no flight instinct?

lol you say its common that they get up to 140 pounds? so which is it, up to 140 or common? I know for a fact that the avg wolf including the gray wolf is no where near 140 lbs. i also know for a fact that in the animal world survival is the first priority of animals meaning they will run in life threatning situations. Last thing i want to point out that i know for a fact is that attritribute was bred out of the apbt. Ever seen an kangal up to 140 lbs comingly running for its life while being chased by an apbt who has no plans on stopping anytime soon? Any facts i missed?

I don't care if that wolf gets to be 250 pounds. I would bet my life on a 38 pound [] dog against a wolf of any size. Easy money $$$$$$!!!!!!

  15. I've seen Dobie's that are close to 140 pounds. They are no match for a game bred pit.

Not to hijack the thread but has anyone heard about the wolf/coyote hybrids that are running around now? Supposedly they are real mean and are even dragging off children.

i think its hilarious when a 150 pound sivas kangal tucks tail and runs away form a 50 pound apbt.... or the caucasian ovtcharka that gives up and lays ther while he is getting worked

For starters, i must admit, that it is not very wise on my behalf to argue my credible points on a forum that is solely based for game dogs, or more so, American Pitbull Terriers. Because no matter how credible or factual my argument may be, i will be "wrong", or just "not right" in the eyes of most viewers.

In those FEW videos of the Kangals running away, it is an evident fact that those Kangals are not of high quality and are not as eager to fight. It is like they were not even prepared to fight in the first place. However, in MOST of the OTHER Kangal vs Pitbull videos, the Kangals do NOT back down like that or lack the eagerness to fight,

When comparing a proven "game bred" Pitbull and a proven 170lb Sivas Kangal, it doesn't matter how game the Pitbull is, as soon as the Kangal overpowers it to the ground and establishes a strong hold, there's almost nothing that the Pitbull can do. The physical dominance that the Kangal establishes over the Pitbull, is too overwhelming.

The "gameness" theory, will not come into play in MOST match-ups like this, simply because the fight is over rather quickly. The Pitbull is thrown around like a rag-doll, it is simply overpowered. But yet, you people get all defensive as if your breed’s one claim to fame and most important trait is somewhat... "invincible".

True, it may not be "on average" that an Alaskan Gray Wolf weighs 140lbs. However, there are still MANY alpha male Gray Wolves that DO weigh 140lbs+. Only a handful are brought into captivity and tested. One can clearly assume that there are many more Gray Wolves out there of such large size. Who can deny that? It is simply, a fact.

The average alpha male Gray Wolf is more than twice the size of the average American Pitbull Terrier. An alpha male is believed to kill roughly about 2-4 Wolves in his lifetime. The notion that a Wolf would back down from a dog because it was wounded, is ludicrous. Wolf packs fight on a regular basis. The physical strength, bite force and endless stamina would spell doom for almost any dog; even for a top-notch proven Sivas Kangal or Kavakazskaya Ovtcharka.
