Ok, imma just say, i apologize for creticizing your dogs. i see where a lot of people are comming from on thier replies to this thread. im just really pickey on how an APBT should look during a keep, and they didnt look too happy. But in closing i would just like to say great looking dogs and good luck in your show.

  2. yes we have a few shows 1 in nj and another here in mass

  3. ShadyRidge, beautiful dogs. I don't go to dog shows so I can't really offer you any advice. However, to those people who think these dogs need a few more meals or whatever, I don't think they understand the "total athlete". I mean, these dogs are like the canine equivalent of human bodybuilders. And you don't see ANY fat on them, lol. Would you tell this guy he needs to eat more? ;)

Total athlete. And no, I don't think he was starved and abused, either.

I agree with most of the other posts, that they are almost there just a wee bit more muscle. If yo have access to Peds online look up Vega420 1xW and Vixen420 1xW BIS

  6. ooo ya damit i forgot to add this ,to the people that were saying more muscle tone ect. yes they are getting toned ect. but some dogs just dont have bulky, massive muscles.just look at race horeses, they dont have big muscles persay. allso for a pit dog. more muscle is just going to hinder the dogs performace , as muscle weighs more then fat.but yes they are coming along niceley. ill get more pics

Overall I think the dogs look great. I don't know if it's the pics but it looks like the spines are showing just a bit too much imo. Keep up the work and good luck with the shows.

By the looks of it, they dropped the weight off too fast. As a bodybuilder, when this happens you tend to go flat and actually lose a lot of muscle along the way. I'm guessing it's about the same with dogs. Do you happen to put some kibble in with their raw food? Try mixing in 1/2-1 cup of premium kibble to make sure they are getting all the vitamins they need in their meals. I've actually never done a keep or truly conditioned a dog before, but am just using some of my common sense from bodybuilding to try to help out here. Also, I would think about dropping in a vitamin tablet once you really start hitting the training really hard and/or when you reduce the feed. I know it won't help on a large scale, but would make their body work more efficiently. Just some things to think about incase you've never thought of it before. I'll offer this last piece of thought, too. Most of this comes from a human perspective on bodybuilding, but I believe it can be applied to dogs during their conditioning also. On stage you try to present the perfect, most aesthetic figure you possibly can. In the show ring, you try to show the most correct dog. Not much difference there, would you say? Anyway, the only thing that really changes during my routine while "cutting" for the stage is how much more work I do. My diet changes very little, but I just put more work into my cardio and weight training. Maybe that's something else to think about. Keep the feed the same, just work them harder. Just trying to help here. Sorry if it's confusing. It's 1:30 am here.

I wouldn't mix any kibble in with the raw food...because they are digested at different rates....and does harm to the dog. Either go all kibble or all raw (in one serving that is) but it is totally fine to do kibble in the am and raw in the pm if that makes sense.
