Original Pit Dogs in Ireland?

Discussion in 'Staffordshire Bull Terriers' started by CockneyRebel123, May 14, 2023.

  1. Not all aren't, and I bet the earlier pre-Johnson types were smaller and ideal catch dogs. I can't find the pics but I've seen photos of them Old Southern Whites in the deep south and they strongly resemble bulldog types, these pics must be late 1800's early 1900's.

American Bulldog. In this neck of the woods were APBT crosses mated with English Bulldogs and when crossed further into the English Bulldogs became Old English Bulldogs, LOL. Many modern designer mutts have some APBT influence.

CockneyRebel123 What I meant to say is all the photos you posted are British Bulldogs , here is the photo of English dog breeder you posted earlier with Bull mastiff mentioned , I will say again you will not find any old book/old magazine mention White English/American Bulldogs , till after they invented the American Pit bulldog around 1960s ,

  7. Surely you've seen them pics on the farms in the deep south, I can't find them, it shows bulldog types, the pics are really old. They dogs shouldn't be confused with the dogs created by Scott, Hines, Johnson, Painter, etc.

No never seen them , why has nothing ever being mentioned in a old dog magazine or book till after they started inventing the American Pit bull dogs , dont bother show any photo from the internet , its just people who keep American bulldogs posting any white bulldog type , with out any proof or info on them ..

  9. Yeah mate, I've seen pics of Old Southern Whites in the plantations, these pics have got to be at least 100 year old, for the life of me I can't find them though, it may be in one of my AB books, I'll see if I can dig them out. Now, I wonder where these dogs came from, could be from Spain given it's Cajun heritage?

    show them

  11. I checked in the book, the pics are not in there. Don't quote me on it but I'm almost certain that I've seen pics of white bulldog types taken in the deep south, they may have been black people in the image as well.

This is all I could find in the book, maybe those in the deep south had bulldog types that were brought over by the Spanish.

  12. How do you shrink file size, won't let me upload stupid thing.

there was no breed called Southern White , it was made up story by the early breeders of American Bulldogs in the 1960s, all American bulldogs ware first developed in the late 50s -early 1960s from a handful of breeds mostly large APBT , I bet people post old photos of any type of white bull breed , and claim it as proof , not one old magazine on dogs or books on dogs , have mentioned them ,
