Working out my feed/work schedule

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by elviejon01, Jun 15, 2018.

  1. Hello everyone,

Currently I only keep a handful of dogs but a few of them are coming of age I plan to start increasing their workout load. My schedule currently consists of handwalking 20-30 minutes in the morning followed by feeding them. In the evening time after work I start to work the older dogs. There is about 12-14 hour gap between the morning feed and my workouts. With my family and other responsibilities I find that this is the only schedule that allows me to get all my dogs daily exercise. My question is, will the 12-14 hr time berween feed and work be sufficient for my dogs to digest their food complete.

The only other alternative I thought about would be to spend more time with some of the dogs in the morning and rotate them so that some get days off while I spend more time with the others.

    Appreciate the feedback

If it’s working for you don’t change it up I would believe they shoulda digested it all if not most .

Very few people actually let the dog dictate the work schedule.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you as far as time to work the dogs, time for me to work and time for the family.

There are a number of ways to handle your situation. Here is my approach.

Regardless of when I work my dogs ( I work rotating swing shifts so I work in the AM sometimes and the PM at other times. I use the swing day as the rest day).

If working in the AM I work the dog as normal. I make a fatty, broth like feed with the supplementation, really wet. Then at night I weigh him and feed him according to where I want him to be the next day.

If it works for you and the dogs then that is the 'right' way to do things.
