Whenever he's around bigger dogs who are acting aggressive and growling, he will tuck tail and become submissive.

Still to young to tell how he'll turn out, or is this a sign of things to come?

That's kind of like saying, My 1 year old son won't make a fist, does that mean he won't be able to be a good boxer when he is an adult. The pup is only 12 weeks old. You shouldn't be looking for any signs of adult behavior in a pup that age. Let it be a pup and grow up.

Obvious answer is use some common sense and keep the pup well away from aggressive dogs. You wouldn't expect a baby to act like an adult, so don't expect the same from a pup.

How is he bred? If no Redboy or very little Frisco, send em to me

Submissive behaviour has nothing to do with gameness. Many old breeders have said that the most dominant pups in a litter, are the curs. Something like barnstormers.
He will turn, when he realises he is a man and stay away from aggressive dogs till then.
I have a 3 yo super submissive male (from puppys to kitties!) that has turned. When he realises that the other dog is not just into domination/submission shit, is all bussiness from that point with no return!
How you can read an aggressive dog? Ears high, looking at your pup, tail high and if the dog is insecure, back hair high too

I'd suggest letting the pup be a pup and focus on health n mind rather then who or what he or she will be when grown as the actions today are not always that of tomorrow. Time brother Tests n Time.

Had him out on the boardwalk and met a friend with a large malamute. He said the dog was fine, but my pup got in his face and he growled. My pup tucked tail and ducked low.

keyword , pup. And with certain types of pant bred some we can NOT treat like others more so should NOT treat them like others and allow them such closeness to another unless it's around time n tests but that comes with allowing them the safety to mature which comes with age

Maritimer, totally normal what happened! The other dog didn't attack your puppy. He just put him in order. Your puppy got into his face, apparently something that the older dog finds offensive and by growling shoed him that this is not tollerated.
Your puppy understood that and obeyed. Sorry for mispelling or expression mistakes, not my first language.

Then you realize it's your fault and you got lucky the larger dog didn't want to pick off a pup

Your posts have a fairly condescension tone. You got a chip on your shoulder?

Yea I understand you have to keep your pup away from big aggressive dogs. This is a special circumstance where I had my pup out for a walk and met another dog who I was unsure of. I was right there supervising, and they were separated after the other dog became aggressive.

Easy with the harsh judgment eh?

Give the dog time mine was submissive to other dogs as well. He is almost 8 months he is not that way anymore he is seperated from my other 2 dogs due to him not allowing them to boss him around he just relized he's a bulldog and doesn't have to listen to the other dogs anymore lol. Be careful what you ask for lol. I've done everything I can to keep him friendly with other animals not happening anymore. He just turned on like a few days ago.

It's called socialization. You shouldn't keep a 4 month old pup completely away from other dogs because of YOUR fears. Take it around animals you KNOW are ok with others, not think. How will it learn to behave if there is no socialization? Apbt need socializing just like any other breed, they usually don't tolerate same sex. I'm not saying take your dog to the dog park and let him loose! That said, there is nothing wrong with introducing pups to friendly, grown dogs IMO. Ppl think just cause they have a apbt they have to treat em like Hannibal Lecter. Most grown dogs won't attack a pup like they will a grown dog, just check the pup. Use your better judgement and experience. Don't take your pup around overly dominant or intolerable dogs

He's maturing. There's only one way to find out if he really turned on and 8 months is too early for that. Let pups grow to be dogs! Anything under 2 is a pup/youngin IMO. The look in their eyes change when they hit adulthood, they do less "puppy stuff" as well. They are more serious

I got a 4 moth old bitch,, driven as hell.. She plays well with the wifes lil Brussels bitch.. The year & 1/2 old GSD is a tad rough, she does not take any shit, she will hit him as hard as a train & drive in deep... When he acts decent shes fine & plays good, but wont put up with the bossy stuff.. Pups are pups, they all find their selves but need to be exposed

This person is correct in parts Some have apbt that can run free all day no matter the age nor animals around and won't hit a lick n still be game dogs and others have the same that are just apbt you must know what you have and you must Use caution I can only speak on what I see more so on what I feed and have fed and I wouldn't chance such with any of Ours but then I've seen pups at one end of the farm grab another and by the time I'm there that pup was dead seem pups run up and attack grown dogs on cable runs even when the dog showed it wasn't gonna play. Had some Old ones brought in and yep even at 14 barely able to rand they'd try and get out the window and some were socialized with All types of living things. It really is important to use caution and try your best to know what type of dogs your dogs come from. Seen to many pups n dogs die cause we think we can chance it cause we want to show others they can get along. It's not Our life we e playing with. Always ask it's better then Opinions and wishes and Yes you will find a lot of Us believe we know best and will attack you just cause it helps them win cool points with more like then rather then try and help The DOGS egos get the best of Us all only some can see it and step away. May Your dog be all you help it to be. Be safe.
