I know this is not an ideal time to take a pup from the litter, but I would like to hear if anyone has any first hand experience they'd like to share? Is it as horrible as the internet has told me?

The pup was weaned at 4 weeks.

I prefer to get a pup at 6 weeks old. They require a bit more attention but I believe there will be a deeper bond with you, more than a pup that is 8 weeks or older. IMO

Personally I don't think it makes any difference, especially if the pup was allowed to nurse some or get some of the gyps milk! We had one HEAVEY bred Tobe & Rose dog that would kill the pups, after A few days! We milked the gyp and bottle feed the pups for about another week or so then started mixing formula, every one turned out adjusted and healthy! It's just A LOT of work! In that instance we let the pups stay together they did just fine! Got three litters that way!

There should be no problem at all I've got a couple a 5-6 weeks old. Male sure he eats. At 6 weeks they should be eating puppy.

NO , its not horrible....the internet is horrible for spreading lies. LOL......key word WEANED, once the pups are weaned they dont need the mother.

I like mine after 8 weeks. Reason being 6-12 weeks is when they really start to wake up and start to rough each other up real good. Also every pup I got after 8 weeks had more instinct then the ones I rushed and got at 6.

Saiyagain said it best when they are weaned they can go home. If they are eating dog food they are good to go.

I like to let pups stay on mother as long as she allows them. Even if they are eating soaked puppy food. Mothers milk has a lot of good things for them.
