My old house dog a month ago was diagnosed with diabetes. I give him 2 insulin shots a day, 12 hours apart. Needles must be given after he has eaten...and there lays the problem.

He knows the timings of his injections and as you can imagine he is not a fan and refuses to eat. I have tried switching food, given him human food etc etc. Some will work for a short period and then back to square one.

I have talked to my vet, researched online and am at a loss. So here I am hoping someone has more experience with this then me and can offer some advice please ?

Nutri Cal or K9 Superfuel are a couple substitutions I've used for dogs that can't/won't eat.

Chuva this is something I have never had a prob with in dogs and I prob should do some lookin into.I know normal sugar level in humans is lioe 91 to 108 , what is normal for a dog ? And how high is his sugar? I know dogs are mostly meat eaters and my question is ? Is it bad enough that diet can control it ?

He is the older rescue dog I have chatted with you about. Since I got him I fed him the same feed I did my pits which is a high quality kibble. I use the same food now but mix pumpkin in with it. Also have tried homemade dog stew and other foods as well. I am going to look into the items that naus mentioned. The vet said he has to have the shots at this point, so diet alone is not enough.

The nutrical I've literally had to squirt down the back of the dogs throat for a stubborn pregnant bitch and a dog whos mouth was too fucked up. But it got the job done to help supplement their diet. Yours may just lick it up its kind of like honey.

The superfuel you can just add water (or add nutrical too if you want) and let the dog lap that up. They tend to love that shit. It works as a meal replacement. I've given it for weeks at a time to injured dogs and dogs in keep.

Good luck, its a pain when they go off feed like that

I'm going to have to go with that for sure, thanks again.

I have always kept an old rescue dog along with my pits over the years regardless of breed. IMO no one should do this or own any dog for that matter unless you can provide each and every dog you keep with the best medical needs a dog may have. I have over the years always been tempted to get more n more dogs but I always have stayed true to my morals with never owning more then I can feed top quality and provide medical/vet care for as needed.

The closes thing I could find in my area was GNC Ultra High Cal Dog Gel and I did the same as you and shit it down his throat and today he licked ip up off a little plate.

Glad you found somewhat of a solution. My only thing is now that individual will soon only want your gnc product. It's a tough situation and will end up
A Pretty expensive situation. I mean if the dog is worth all the troubles then it's justified. I would cull personally and I mean that without any malice but I respect anyone who is willing to help a individual in need. It's just when that individual in need is getting help and their quality of life is not improving is when you got to really think.

No other then the recent trouble with eating he is fine and in good health, Also he is not a bulldog, just a mix breed I got at a shelter awhile back for my Mother when her older dog passed away. Tonight I mixed only a little gel in with his reg food and he ate thankfully.
