"Dog powered" mills are gonna get him booted from his apartment. This guy needs a mill like he needs a chain spot in his kitchen.
    Carry on...

  2. I have looked into a slat/carpet mill, but its near impossible for me to own one right now. I like the idea of a bungee lead to allow her to pull and get tired, but the problem is I worked so hard to teach her to heel that I don't want to ruin this. I think I will get a bungee lead just for running her and allowing her to pull as much as she wants during this time, any thoughts?

It took me a month to teach my dog to quit pulling during walks. After my daughter got bored with walking him it took me 2 months to un:teach him. I want them to pull, for their sake and mine, to maximize the work. It took another month to teach him to walk beside me on command.

Remember, if you just walk your dog regularly, feed her quality food of the right amount (2.5 percent body weight), your dog is gonna naturally look great. Don't go dreaming up a bunch of bullshit you're not gonna be able to maintain. It's just a waste of time and money. Trust me.

Exactly its just another exercise tool just like any other equipment. Its just mind boggling when some people say don't use a electric treadmill without any legit reasons to back it up yet the average joe dog owner regardless of breed uses the electric treadmill to exercise there dog world wide. One can buy a used electric treadmill on CL for $50.00 or less as they are very very common unlike a slat or carpet mill which is unknown by most of the general public.

I wanted to hear Jims reasons why as he is the one that made that comment in the first place.

Hello again, First I'm not some kind "i'll know it better" dog guru.
A frind of my used also the 'human' treadmill for his American-Bulldog for a while.
But once his dog slips and his leg was to sit at the side clamp, making his toenail partially broke, and his toe(s) bruised.
Nothing very serious, but it could be worse.
For the rest, I have also heard from other people, but yes it is hearsay, so no watertight proof.

I don't want to scare anybody, just pointing out the potential dangers.
There are also electric dogmills, new for me just found it on the internet:
Large JOG A DOG Treadmill - Model DC67
(Read the FAQ's under the FAQ button) explanation the difference in safety comparing the human and dog treadmill.

If you want a real exercise for your dog, I mean build op stamina enz....I'll still think that dogpowered treadmills are better.
A treadmill used to exercise dogs aerobically and promote endurance, stamina and lean muscle tissue.
As many of you know, dog competition requires both anaerobic and aerobic ability.
Anaerobic abilities are used in the primary part of the contest and aerobic is needed for the long run.
Different types of workouts get different results.
The treadmill is capable of a wide range of workouts, endurance training (average 15 miles per hour) sustained for 15 to 30 minute sessions, and speed training (Sprints) up to 40 miles per hour for the Greyhounds.

A dog*s heart rate is naturally much higher than that of a human.
It takes much more activity to get the heart rate up and maintain the increased heart for a workout session.
The fastest electric dog treadmill on the market has a top speed of 8 miles per hour.(the brand in the link above max 12mph)
This will not get a dogs heart rate up and will not promote gains in strength, speed or endurance.
The only thing it will do is burn some calories.

So your telling me that running a dog at 8 miles an hour until he flat out quits and setting a routine as to the amount of time ran increases every time ran isn't increasing his stamina or endurance?

Just by reading your post I would forget about A mill! If you don't get guidance you can really hurt one and not know it! This is what I'd do in your position, get about A sturdy 30ft. lead rope, take the pup out walking with the long lead by the time you walk A mile the pup will have walked 3-5 depending! Never let it run loose, and find an isolated place to walk! Nice Looking Pup!! Good Luck

I like that idea but "isolated place" is the key factor there! Don't wanna be doing that where there are other dogs possibly loose or traffic.

    Hi CajunBoulette.
I'm telling only what experienced APBT owners who sports with their dogs in competition enz.....telling me.
Still learning, I don't use any treadmill yet, considering to buy (expensive here) or handmade by myself.
I can't proof it CajunBoulette205, again I'm not a scientist in Dogsports, it's what they say to me or what i read on the net.
Offtopic: Little bit the same of using supps, 1 group say yes, and the other group says it's BS enz...neverending story.

    gr Jim

    apologize for the english

If someone can only run 1 mile today, but runs 1.2 tomorrow and then 1.4 the following day. Their endurance or stamina is increasing.

Oh yes that's true, well for the endurance part LOL, (just kidding)
I'll think you make stamina stronger, not (much)bigger.

So you yourself have no personal experience using a human electric treadmill yet your telling others that its not good to use a human electric treadmill because of all the hearsay other people are telling you without any legitimate claims to back it up? ok lol

Slips his leg and partially breaks a toe nail and bruises toes? Maybe your friends AB is not as durable as this dog> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=topSmutw5ro LMAO that vid is so hilarious.

There are potential dangers in using any type of equipment. A human e-mill and a dog e-mill is basically the same. That article is marketing that dog emill so of course they are going to put bullshit claims of it being safer or better etc.. lol....Also since you've never experienced using a human emill before you wouldn't realize that you can simply modify it fairly easily to suit the dogs needs better.

The typical human electric treadmill can reach speeds of up to 8-12mph...The professional sports electric human treadmills can reach over 25mph.

Its just blows my mind how people give out advice without even knowing the truth. LMAO

So you don't have A place in your area, you can take your pup out and hand walk, keep it short when there are others and long when alone! I have made several mills there fast and smooth, but also noise'y if you go that way try and have someone help you at first! Make sure pups nails are clipped, hand walk before and after, just short amounts of time at first! Good Luck again nice looking pup!
