Honestly if I lived further north I'd prob worry more. But hell we prob have 10 days a year that it's below 32, I haven't even worn a coat this year.

It's better on the dogs for it to be below freezing and have dry bedding than it is if it was in the 40's and raining with damp bedding from going in and out of their houses. This spring I'll have to change the bedding twice as much as I do now.

Yes. The biggest issue you are gonna have is other people and animal control. I have stories...

I just used plenty of hay/straw when it got nasty I had a chicken coop with cages in it and a few light bulbs to burn off the chill makes a big difference ..But some a hole leave their dogs out no hey on a chain and they are found froze dead rock hard Those are not dog men those are dog turds

I have done plenty of reading, but thanks for the assumption. I was asking about -40 degree temperatures which Is what we had for weeks, not normal winters. Didn't know if there were times when people who have outside dogs, bring them inside (to a barn or something, not a house per say) when it is brutally and fatally cold.

lots of -- temps here too. That's why I really have not had a outside dog yet. Thinking about it tho.

I bring mine inside to spend the night in a crate when it goes below zero. Its not that they couldn't stay out there at 5 or 7 below, but better safe than sorry. An insulated dog house with plenty of straw does make a huge difference.

I'm sorry, I missed where you actually described how cold you were talking about.
