The search feature at the top right will get you all the answers you could possibly handle. Type in a few search words and you'll have plenty of threads to chose from.

If you think you're gonna put gravel on top of the grass and it's going to continue to grow, you're wrong. What you plan on doing is gonna kill the grass anyways.

In THAT situation with THAT many dogs, yeah, I think you have to give up the idea of a lawn.

Me, I LIKE the idea of a lawn for my yard (around the house). To that end, my dogs (I also have 7), are kenneled in a dirt area (never had a lawn there) a bit aways from the house. THAT is where they spend time when I am not home -- pooping and peeing and enjoying the sunshine and view. When I am home, they are rotated into the yard to enjoy running around, eating grass, rolling around and cleaning the dust off and yes, doing some pooping and peeing. The yard requires care, yes, but it's worth it for me and the dogs to enjoy. When the dogs don't LIVE on the lawn, it can be done.

And yes, it requires the space to be able to do it, something that everyone with active dogs needs to take into consideration when choosing a place to live.

You have a front lawn and a lawn where the dogs aren't, lol I'm like treez I guarantee you can't keep a grassy chain spot!! As far as rocks go won't the chains pretty much sling them everywhere?

If your up shit creek without a paddle, chill out and float back down!

I have gravel in dogs chain spot and I like it. I would have went with rock dust and had it delivered if I would of needed a larger load. I only have to use the weed eater to trim around spots because I have very little grass anymore so throwing rocks isn't a issue here. The gravel is just enough to keep their spot from getting muddy when it rains.

It's either grass or chain spots. You aren't going to have both. Make the choice.

If your yard is set up neatly, and you keep your chain spots groomed well, it isn't such a big eye sore. As I said.....You're not going to have both grass and a chain spot. One or the other.
