Pitbull or Bull Terrier??

In a few months I plan on getting a dog. I am torn between pitbull and bull terrier. I have friends and family that have one or the other. I would like other opinions. I have 2 young girls ages 5 and 2. They know that they need to be nice and not mean to any animals. I also have a cat who doesn't really seem to be phased by anything. She usually just lays around or hides.

Are they both good with kids? I read that the bull terrier can be rather stubborn and hard to train.

Shit APBT's are stubborn as hell to lol. Bull terrier might not be such a high energy dog though and may fit best because if that. Check into the stafford shire bull terrier. It's a total different dog than a bull terrier. Resembles a apbt more if you like that look better. If I went bull terrier look into the miniature. Less feed and easier to handle.

Good point OKC. Unfortunately though the general public are so uneducated that any dog the resembles a "pitbull" is already labeled and assumed to be a "pitbull" no matter what the hound really is. SBT, Am Staff, Bully, all are classified as "pitbull" even though they are not the APBT sadly. So I think owning any bulldog causes trouble. For instance, I just moved into a new upscale neighborhood and my neighbor was out yesterday as I was walking one of my dogs. They said, oh! He's a pitbull! But is he full blooded? He looks small. (40lbs Chinaman male). I found myself wanting to say...yes he's full blooded but you must be referring to a Am staff or a 100lbs bully dog that your use to seeing which are not "American Pitbull Terriers". But instead of beating a dead horse, or educating my neighbor or possibly me being worried about the reaction I would get if I told her he was a full blooded APBT. I proceeded to tell her, oh he's a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and went about my day. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. So, I would just get what I wanted if I was you. Your doomed for owning any bulldog/terrier breed however the public does take more kindly to the Bull terrier. So owning one of those May cause you less headache depending on where you live. If choosing a APBT get use to weird looks and not taking your hound for walks in the dog park. The general public is split into two categories. You find people that either love them and educated...or hate them and uneducated. Good luck with your choice and enjoy whatever it is you decide on getting. Both very good bulldogs.

If you have to ask that question and you fancy the BT save yourself lots of stress and get a BT and tell everybody it's show dog bred.

Lol true fact GH32. Man, check this out. I got a Asian leopard cat. Its a smaller leopard that lives in the rain Forrest in Asia. It's a real leopard, just a smaller scale. Like a minx or a bobcat. Pretty cool cat. Expensive as hell. Eats a raw diet to along with my hounds. Anyway, that cat...whips the two bulldogs asses that live in my house. That sum bitch is way to fast for them to even get close to...it drives the nuts! Lol the cat will run up behind them...and try to drag them down like a lion does a water buffalo. Then by the time they turn around his ass is out of dodge like a thief in the night. Poof! Gone! Lol. Pretty hilarious to see. They want to get his ass so bad lol.

I agree with your statement but if somebody doesn't know what breed they're wanting to raise and come on a forum to ask what kind of dog they should get then....they're asking for any type of answer that comes their way.imo

I know what you're saying,I'm just saying that in the end, just make yourself happy. Both can be animal aggressive,so the cat needs to watch out,lol :-) I don't know alot about bull terriers, but the APBT is a great pet if you know what you're doing, but they certainly aren't for everyone, which is probably why I like them so much. What can I say,I'm weird, and like things that are out of the norm, lol

I'm right with you my man, side by side! I commented specifically because, imo, if someone has to ask if a APBT is the pet for them.....its most likely not. But yea, whatever makes the OP happy is what they should do. I just don't suspect the APBT is the winning ticket for them. And I have no experience with the BT either so my answer to the OP was simply based on my experience with APBTs.

I've had Apbt, EBT and Sbt at one point in my life and my SBT is the best of the three as a house dog (especially with children) The OP should get what he wants, but as long as he's asking SBT!

If you donĀ“t want to handle a big dog and tend to the Bullterrier also get a deep look at the Miniature Bullterrier!
Same qualities as the English Bullterrier but in a smaller package!
