Placing sub par dogs or curs in homes as pets is a form of culling to me. The best "adults" stay with the breeder. But like was said earlier, nobody knows how a litter or individual pup will turn out. Just try to find a proven Sire and Dam and a nice ped with proven producers to back it up. On the flip side, some people don't give two shits if their dog is a cur as long as he takes home the ribbon in a confirmation show or a pull. So I think a good breeder will or should look at the individual buying the dog and give them what best suits their plan for the dog. I have had people want to buy a bulldog from me, say a young adult around 6-12 months old as a pet, or to show the dog or enter pulls. Then within a couple weeks bring the bulldog back to me and ask for their money back because the bulldog they purchased was to aggressive towards other dogs or even got into a scuffle with another dog. Or complain the dog is to high strung. Granted some of these people where new to the breed or whatever and didn't know what they were getting themselves into buying a game dog. I guess they expected a blue hippo or something along the lines. But at the point of purchase, I did my best to pick the pup or young adult that fit their needs best. And maybe the bulldog I placed with them had never showed me shit or turned on at that point. So in my opinion he was pet quality or show quality or best for a inexperienced owner. But two weeks later the little shit turns on like a lights switch and causes havoc. So it really is hard to tell in a pup or young adult. I've seen bulldogs take as long as two years to finally turn on. But when picking pups for buyers, as all of us should be able to as breeders...be able to tell somewhat between the alpha pups and the submissive pups. Usually this can be seen during feedings. But nobody knows that the submissive runt may be the best pup in two years. It's like playing a slot machine really. You may hit you may not. But with a proven line or Sire and Dam it increases your odds. To me as a breeder, I do not strive for sub par bulldogs. I don't think none of us do that truly gives a shit about preserving the breed or maintaining a reputation. But there's some folks out there that are strictly in it for the green backs and those are the ones you need to steer clear of if you want a fine Bulldog. TG does make lots of money doing what he does. But, he still produces fine bulldogs from proven stock/lines. This is fact as there are clearly winners being produced time and time again in all sorts of competitions. So coming from proven stock is key as much as breeder responsibility to try and identify the pup that best suits the buyer.

Old goat, I don't think you understand what I'm saying so allow me to elaborate for you. First of all you have to be doing something news worthy or illegal for that to happen...correct? Coming to me looking for bullshit to put on the news is like going to KFC looking for tacos. Breeding dogs is not illegal. Nor is placing pet quality dogs in good homes or accommodating the buyer in finding the dog that best suits their needs. They want a confirmation correct dog to show...that's what they get. The want a dog that is a little bigger to catch hogs or pull..that's what they get. They want just a pet to enjoy with the family...that's what they get. So nothing in my post should warrant your ignorant comment. Should I post a disclaimer next time so you don't read to much into what the hell I'm saying? If it's due to the "culling" comment. The true definition of "culling" is to "remove unwanted stock". These are dogs I will not use in my breeding program. So what better to do with them than to let someone enjoy them. If that's news worthy then I guess I'm guilty lol.

teneessee first off you can't pick a pup and think it will be the shy 1 . then your talking about placing a cur and that can get anyone on the news . now this is your words here

I have had people want to buy a bulldog from me, say a young adult around 6-12 months old as a pet, or to show the dog or enter pulls. YES you and the guy you sold a dog to could be on the EVENING NEWS . sounds like you will sale to anyone the way you write . and what about this statement ?

when picking pups for buyers, as all of us should be able to as breeders...be able to tell somewhat between the alpha pups and the submissive pups. Usually this can be seen during feedings. But nobody knows that the submissive runt may be the best pup in two years.

now i'm not being mean and i hope you've learned something today that you will stop doing .

Yea. My recent pup I got was from a very well known kennel and it was listed as private stock. After a few months of asking and the dam having a big litter of 10 I got 1. And they didn't know me from a whole in the wall.

  12. Truth is breeders do keep the best or best for them dogs. Because to them that's all that matters making Him or her happy who cares what people thinks or say. As long as you are happy with the dogs! Thats bulldogging for the love!! Are you going to make mistakes plenty will learn from them as u grow you better!! As long as you can be real with your self and you taking care of home live your life! If you not there get there or die trying ! Look you got 2 choices get the same stuff a lot of other peps got and be safe in your circle and maybe do good with so called private stock (which if it your stock you can call it what you want) they can be off ch -gr or what ever( because real dog men know all ch and winners are not great producers) that don't put anything in stone over the next mans dog % shld be better but that can depend on the comp in the circle how its bred you just never know! Up and coming dogmen can not afford put out crap on the street they will never get going while proven dog men like the names we type have put in the the work am played there part so a 1500 dollar curs sale here and there will not do much to Hurt there good name. Hell half the time if it was a well bred hound the handler may be most of the problem! So peps with $$ to blow can take a 1500 hit and keep it going but avg peps best research and choose a dog man that does it for the love more than $ . So then you can maybe get 2 or 3 dogs for 1500 you think about it may even be more rare not main stream but do the job better you never know but if u take a chance and it works well you what they say high risk high reward! Like the song goes (50 told me go head and switch my style up and if thay hate then let them hate and watch the success pile up ) But with success comes the the snakes and back stabbers so be careful what you wish for just try to make sound choices every day and stay around positive mind peps good luck !

  13. I think dog thieves is a BIG problem for people that has private stock because you have something that you don't want to sell, talk about, etc with others

I don't think a large breeder actually breeds public vs. private stock, although he might have a certain cross he might want to keep close or make sure that they are all placed into working homes that he knows will bring the best out of a particular cross. Usually if they are breeding mostly for the money....in this case they will breed most anything, or they are trying to produce good bulldogs....in which case they are trying to breed the best that they have available.

All of mine are private stock to me but there are some breeding's I may let a few go to the public just to get some feed back.
I don't breed with the intentions that the litter is for sale.
Even after the 90th breeding pups just dropped I still feel the same way.
I have bred dogs & not only kept full litters but went generation after generation without even giving any of those out neither to public or to close family or close friends.
"THAT WASN'T WHAT THEY WERE BRED FOR!"
They was bred either to improve on what the parents were lacking in, replace older dogs or just to maintain traits crossed in early breeding's.

Get a good dog from a cross ok. But you have to line breed & weave it , the cross, together to continue to get the same results as the original cross or you might loose it when crossed to something new.
That means a lot of trial & error or test breeding's to get it cross right.

Just because I may or certain others may "SHOW A BREEDING IN A MAGAZINE OR ON A SITE " doesn't mean by anyway that every one plans on letting anything go!

A lot of folks these days assume if you bred a dog then that litter is bred just to sale .
Because a lot of folks do sale everything.
But personally, Be it 12 or 16 generations of strait breeding it's easier to count how many has been let out to the open public than it is to count how many never went to the open public.
I breed to better or @ least maintain on certain strains & that means I need to see as many as possible to make the correct choice as what to put back into the family.
I believe there are still others that do & feel the same way.
Most of my breeding have been & will be Private Stock but a some are let go in some breeding's to the public after close friends & family have made there pics & more are left over.
"BREEDERS ARE NOT SELLERS JUST BECAUSE THEY MAY SELL SOME OF WHAT THEY BREED".
BREEDERS PUT TOGETHER & MAINTAIN FAMILIES & NOT MORE!
Check your bulldog history real close & see that a lot of dog men had there whole yard put down when they either got out of dogs or past away because they didn't want anyone to have there dogs!!! Big fact !!!
People are real confused these days because of a few that breed dogs & sale more if not everything that they breed.
Can't speak for all but it's not the case here as all breeding's , half the breeding or even a lot of the breeding's are made available to the open public.
Even then I gave away more than I ever had sold.
