Perhaps there could be enough of them in USA or the Balkans to find one that would last. In Australia I think you would have zero chance. Sure you might find a family line of Amstaffs or a line with 50% Tacoma bloodlines but what would that prove? Starting with lines where gameness isn't the main concern and it's just another hurdle to jump. So my question to you is - What kind of competition? Gamebred APBT or working Amstaffs. There were some tough Akitas in Australia in the 90's. Had a son off Overhills Swift of Fut UK Imp. He was separated from his litter mates at 5wks. Breeder who used his father told me some Akita could handle APBT but not gamebred APBT. Bought an Amstaff recently off working lines. He lives with a really docile Akita. Not as docile as I previously thought. Has a few nasty habits. Amstaff is seven months old now and seems very soft in temperament. He has that on off switch thing where he'll change to charged up in a second but that's not important. His breeder told me Amstaffs just don't have the endurance to match a gamebred APBT. Would like to hear more about your views on this matter as I know very little.

    APBT is a working breed

I have read that there were some Amstaffs with a high percentage of Storklind APBT bloodlines that were successfully campaigned against APBT in the 70's. However they are only a few generations removed or less from gamebred APBT. Today it would be difficult to imagine an Amstaff competing with any success.

Many years back there was some good Ruffian blood that went on to be just a show bloodline.I remember a Ruffian dog winning a show against decent competition but that was almost 50 years ago!

rubbish... just because its show bred doesnt mean it has zero chance. i bet u if i had 500 am staff i would get some that beat apbt in the box.

Even if you had a maaaad english bulldog, would you honestly feel good rolling it?
Mind is one thing, the other is endurance. Lets say you crossed Mayday to an EB, it had the full mind of Mayday and gameness but before it ever reached the :20 mark it died from shortness of breath..

What i'm trying to say is that if you want a working dog, why get something that acts like an APBT, Somewhat looks like an APBT but doesnt have the stamina and endurance of an APBT?
Yes you'll find working amstaffs, like you find working dogs of every other breeds pretty much, and yes they will do fine in most cases - but if you wanna drive fast, why go with the BMW 320 instead of the M3, now that you decided on a BMW ;) ?

shit on bmw, my car is an audi :D

but im with you, if people are interested in an performance dog - apbt is the best choice.

A big powerful hard-mouthed Amstaff could in theory take out a APBT before gameness or stamina came into it. At equal weights I wouldn't give the Amstaff much hope of winning.

a kangal will smash a pitbull too without any problems because a kangal male weights 3 to 5 times more than an apbt.

    only equal weights are fair.

  13. I own a working Amstaff. Probably doesn't have the endurance of a well bred game pit, but he doesn't try to eat other dogs when he's hunting. As far as gameness, you defiantly can see its in his genes. Passive at the house, needs to be watched around alpha males, but when hog Hunting he's a different animal. Now I've noticed his built; very correct, more bone, & thicker muscle. Verse the leaner Game pit. This could be the Difference in endurance. But I like the thicker bone, gameness turned a notch down, type dog for pack hunting is ideal for me. This based on my expirence.

I wouldn't waste time even trying to find out. At this point the amstaff is as far removed from todays apbt then any other breed. And even if u did find a freak amstaff he ain't gone produce worth a dam.

But i also seen kangals running away from apbt.
Remember seeing 2 vids, 1 was in the box for the first 15 minutes i felt sorry for the apbt because he was getting tossed around like a lap doll but the kangal didn't do much damage after the 15 min mark the apbt started to do some serious damage to the kangal, at the 20 min mark the kangal jumped out of the box.
Second was out in a open field, same story as above and when the kangal was getting hurt to much he run in to the forrest in the background not to be seen anymore.

@ black poisen, if you want to go thru 500 dogs just to get a decent working am staff, go a head i wil keep it to the apbt and after that the sbt from irish lines, if i want better %

Ain't no way a dog bred for show for 10+ generations can stack up close too even the most generic dogmans breeding program. No matter how much it may look like an apbt. They just ain't built for that real work.
