pups playing with the big boys

As much as my bulldogs hate each other, the puppies do quite well hanging out wrestling with the dogs on the chains. The pups are four months old and are not yet separated. The pups stay busy playing with ropes and carpet strands that I cut out for them, where as the big dogs burn off steam with long walks, flirtpoles and springpoles. Keeping my dogs busy with their activities have given me a chance to have the dogs hold just enough energy left to play with the pups politely but fun. What are some things you guys do?

Does anybody do anything similar to this?

Sounds a bit iffy IMO, one little spat could equal dead pups.

Letting pups play with the big dogs is good as long as their not aggressive towards puppies, but I don't know about a whole litter, lol think they would be terrorizing the big dogs, when ours were smaller pups they usually hang from a lip or the ear, etc lol, but as long as you keep an eye on them, they should be good!

yep this is unusual ..most bulldogs wont put up with much especially when a dog runs up to thier chain spot..i wouldnt do it for sure.

It depends you need to know the adult dogs not all adult dogs are aggressive with pups my adult dogs that I own now have always welcomed the younger pups into the home without any problems. My suggestion is be careful with food and toys as these are easy triggers for fights. Every dog is different so you need to know the adults and how they tolerate the pups if you have any doubts about the adult playing with the pup don't even risk it because they can kill or seriously injure the pup. Pups can be little assholes and start shit so if the adult you have interacting with them isn't tolerant of the puppy being a dick you could have a problem.

I personally am big on socializing my pups from the minute they come through the door with my older dogs. I don't let any of my dogs play with any dogs other than the dogs in MY home. I know all of them and their ways and I never leave them unattended. So to each his own I am for it as long as the adults are good with the pups.

ive had all sorts of different reactions to pups from grown dogs. some that enjoyed em, some that only tolerated em, and some that flat out hated em. as nasty as Riot can be he really seems to enjoy pups, but we did have a litter when he was just under a year and that might have had something to do with it. hard telling..you just gotta know you dog and wether he/she is trustworthy.

we have a young daschund pup right now that i got for my daughter from a buddy and he took right to the little guy...

You guys are right,it can be done with certain dogs and situations. The image I had though was just your run of the mill dog out back on a chain and letting random pups go play with him. But it can be done,I'd at least be careful when trying it out and only with dogs I knew were ok with it,and never unsupervised for sure.

Yeah not for everyone or every dog.. But some are ok with pups. There was some footage of GR CH Virgil playing with a pup on the chain he had never met the pup before and was fine with it this is just an example of an adult dog that will tolerate a pup. Again I know not all dogs can do this it's up to the handler to know their dogs and what their limit is I always say when it doubt don't do it.. If you choose to allow them to interact if you notice the adults becoming irritated put the pups up right away.

Lol Lee ,Troubadour was raised with 2 Jack Russells until he was a year old, never unsupervised but he was a hot headed dog pretty early on..But he would tolerate them and play with them.

I've never had Gatter around pups intentionally, but one dog did whelp a litter once a few days earlier than expected (reason she was still on the chain )and the newborn wiggled down to his chainspot and he just looked at and acted like it was a little dog turd that squirmed, lol. Surprised he didn't eat it actually, but he just looked at it and sniffed it a time or two. So you never know how they'll respond.

But to show you how quickly two dogs can go from playing to fighting here is my 2 1/2 year old male playing with my 14 month old female. Now the female she's a hot head her fuse is pretty short she get's pissy quickly. These two do ok together however she will fight over toys lol.. So because I know this I don't let them play with toys together.

This is a video if you click on the pic you can watch them attempting to play tug
