Deer Season Score

Its deer season again cant help but be happy.

 

Very nice! How many lbs and what did it cost you?

 

It was about 60-70lbs and it was free. I have a guy that process deer in my area for individuals all hunting season and he gives me all the meat/bone that I want. This is just the start, once the season is in full swing I get about three boxes like this three days a week.

 

No joke feed bill is reduced and I personally like the way the hounds look on it as well. Glad to hear someone else does it.

 

I pay for mines...$5.00 all be it. Practically free when you consider what they give me. I get to haul away as much as I can handle!!

 

some hunt clubs are an untapped resource for feed. one close to the house donates scraps to a wild animal rescue.

 

Yeah the hunters waste a whole lot, and most dont feed it to their dogs. I have a few of them that I get what they dont want as well. All they take is the back strape, tender loin and some ham meat, I get the rest and feed it out including the guts and the hide of the deer. We dont waste anything over here.

That's great. I wish I had room in my freezer for that. I have a harder time getting space than I do finding ways to fill it for next to nothing.

that is absolutely not true bro, 99% of hunters dont throw out everything but that back strap and shoulders. i have known a few bad apples, but most of the people i know and hunt with care more about the wild than any other non hunter and take home every piece of edible meat. i know i do, and if someone i ever hunted with did that shit id never hunt with them again.

 

sure we love big rack bucks, but i dont throw away food and i dont know of alotta hunters who would.
my dogs get some small scraps and lots of bones, nothing more

 

Well in NC we have a lot of waste, I know alot of them that will throw the whole thing away except for the head or racks. At most they take the back strap and some of the ham. I have feed a many a dog as well as myself off the waste of others. What pisses me off worse than them just wasting the deer, is when you go and look at the deer dogs and they are piss poor skinny, and wont feed none of that deer meat to them. To each his own and as long as I can get the deer from them to feed myself and especially the dogs I am not complaining.
