well it should never get that far as to let what ever kind of dog you are hunting with to fight the coon till it gets killed thats what the hunter is for . You and your dog are a team your dogs job is to locate and bay or bolt or hold till you can dispatch the vermin as quickly as possible so there is no unnessary harm to your partner. thats why you as the hunter has to be right there following your partner every step of the way digging 30Ft down In the earth or going threw poisin oak ,poisin ivy , bryar patch or just plaim thick cover or moving tons of rock or logs by hand you have to have more heart then your partner does sometimes to get one or all of these things done and if you are not willing or just dont have the heart to do any of the above it is best NOT TO DO IT!!

I'd think it depends on the size of the bulldog and the size of the coon! Nothing wrong with letting your dog fight a coon IMO, think about what these dogs were bred for!

ture there is nothing wrong with letting you dog fight the coon but why let him kill it dispatch it and get on to next one there is always more to be had :-) i look at it like as if i was hog hunting i would not let my bulldog kill the hog it it would take to much damage . As soon as it is caught i will go in for the kill and get it over with and get on to the next one. just my 2 cents

Is it a quick hold and shake ? Or every dog's style is different ? I am asking becUse I am moving to a new place and I'm not sure if my dogs will have new yard neighbors. I know my chis will be a snack for a coon but I'm hoping size alone will deter a coon that heads towards my home if Bernie is there flexing lol I'm going in there to day and I'm gonna seal gaps under some
Sheds to make sure there is no nesting ground for any critters. I just don't know what I'm going to be up

I have seen coondogs that are absolute kill dog an I have seen some that will take an ass whipping like you ain't seen!
I have 1 4 year old male that will not put tooth on a coon but will track and tree them all day. I have an 8 year old that will tussle with. Coon and get his face chewed up and not even care. The dog will not kill the coon but will fight. I have a 2 year old male that will put the hammer down and be done quicker than he started.

Had a son off Gr Ch Free Bee that killed a huge coon. I came out the next day to check on the dogs, they stayed about 500 feet back from the house. Anyway winter time with snow on the ground I pull up and notice a large blood spot in my lil Irish bitches chain spot. I was like oh WTF is wrong with her. Lil panicky cause she is my sweety and more pet then anything. So get out to see what the heck, then I seen the Frispy come out his dog house with his head chewed on. I was then like JESUS WHAT HELL HAPPEN HERE!!!! Then I see the dead coon! Ding ding Frispy was killing this coon, while doing so Irish the lil fire ball wanted in on the action she scratched and dug so much that she had both front paws bleeding.

So call my buddy that is into coons. He comes over right away, fellow bulldog fancier too. He comes out and I was cleaning up the dogs. Frispy looked great once I removed the coons blood and dirt. Few scratches nothing more. My buddy grabs the coon by the tail and we head back up. He looks at me says man this is the biggest coon I have seen. While he is 6' 4" carrying it by the tail its face was dragging the ground.

He says dude a coon this size would killed most any dog! Good thing you feed bulldogs otherwise you have a dead dog.

What gets me is I had 9 dogs chained out there. What was that coon thinking?

I think I know what happen. Since that Frispy had killed and eaten several more animals, cats and a skunk. I was trying to figure out how he was getting these animals while ona chain. I had fed dogs for over 10 yrs at this time and never seen anything like it. I noticed the dog would eat all but about ten kibbles. As well he had a mote dug around the edge of his chain spot. Prob 18" deep. I tried to keep it filled in, he just excavate it again, so I stopped. Anyway I think he would leave this kibble out as bait. Then go into his dog house and wait. Now along comes a critter and goes down the mote and back up onto the middle island and starts to eat. BAAAAM Out of the dog house comes Frispy and either snags them there or the Mote makes the animal have to travel down and up before exiting this lil extra distance would allow Frispy time to pounce on top.

    AMAZINGLY SMART DOGS!!!!

As for letting a bulldog on a coon, if the dog has never been into a wild animal and doesn't know how to finish a wild animal, I would recommend you keep your pet away! If it comes down to people getting bit, always turn you dog loose!

That dog in the video was a pussy. Mine male has killed alot of coons. I usually intervene and stand on the coon to keep my male from gettin tore up but an average size coon he could kill in a minute or two.

Raccoons are goddamn mean motherfuckers. I don't want anything to do with em. Loud, snarly, vicious, rabies-filled fuckers.

Racoons are hardcore for there size. They will eat rats and squirriel.
In this video the guy says that the couger might be a cub but, IMO it looks too big to be a cub.

After watcking this video, maybe the coons wanted to have the terrier over for dinner.

If someone has a dog that can bite and has had ahold of a coon or two that should do it.If a dog couldn't squish a marshmellow and grabs the coon by the rear and not the chest, then that dog is going to have a mad coon balled up on his head, and he'll get his head peeled for his mistake. This biggest mistake I've seen dogs make while fighting a coon is grabbing the rear end.But the smart dogs learn by getting ahold of a few coons, only one way to learn them.

You're right about that, all dogs are different, some dogs a killers and some aren't. I used to coonhunt and have had some that done ok,some not very good, but I did have a killing machine once (for a hound anyway) anytime I seen that dog bite something wether it was a coon or another dog,I could hear things go crunch. At 13 years old with busted teeth I seen him bite down on the nose of a dog and bust it.(not condoning dog's fighting but things happen)That dog had a freak mouth for a hound and had killed enough stuff he had a pretty good knack for it. So to answer David's question, a good bulldog should have no problem.

When I was younger we used to live in the middle of nowhere, there was this lady that would "rescue" coons (from what I don't know) but she would spay and neuter them. Then when they got older she would turn them loose on the property across from us.The males would get big, true 40lbers with all the hair on them they looked 50,I'm not exaggerating one was as big as my 42lb bulldog.

He used to run off and catch them buy himself, but every now and then I'd take him out in the front pasture with a spot lite and let him do his thing. There weren't any trees so the coons would always stop and fight. Some would last a couple seconds, some a minute or two.

There was one that made it to the creek and about drowned his ass. This dog hated water, and he hated getting water in his ears even more.He was one of those dogs that would almost drown if he got water in his ear cause he'd stop swimming to shake his head, then he'd start to sink, witch would get more water in his ear, witch would make him shake more,it was a vicious cycle.
Anyhow this coon gets him in the creek, and gets on his back and is biting ole hoss right in between the ears.Hoss going under, and the coons going under with him, this fucken coon is game,I could see it in his eye he was ready to die for this shit, luckily the creek wasn't very deep,so hoss could push off the bottom. The funny thing was,the dog wasn't worried about the coon chewing a hole in his fucken head,he was just worried about getting the water out of his ears.He finally swam to the shallower side off the creek, shook ears out and got a hold of the coon and finished him off.But had the creek been a few feet deeper I don't think the outcome would have been the same.

I wouldn't allow my dog to attack coons. Takes one rabid coon and your dog could get rabies. I've had a dog attack a (rabid) skunk, get rabies and have to be put to sleep.

Well.... I'd hate to be your dog in both cases then.Mine on the other hand "attacked"(if that's how you want to phrase it)everything he could. He did what he loved, and he loved what he did.Lived the life any bulldog would love, and died of natural causes.Guess i shouldn't drive a car cause i could get in a crash and die?
