Above ground kennels

I don't put crazy dogs in there but most dogs just lay out/sleep anyway. Specially it being so damn cold right now they won't even leave the house.

 

I remember Cali Jack had the plans for one in his Tips Book , i think it was posted on here a long time ago you might find it on a search

 

Been using the above ground pens for years, no issues with bacteria or cleaning. One word of advice though, if you space out the floor more than 1 1/2 inches, the dogs feet will be able to slip between the 2x4's that make up the floor.

 

Another tip .....if the spacing is less than 1" it makes clean up harder.

I have used them for ever they last about 6 years the wood ones the I take the good off and burn them . Mine are 5x10 3 ft to bttm to keep fleas out they cant jump 3 ft. Spray every day bleach at least weekly, And i make a 2 inch gap at bttm of wire so shit will spray out. I allso have a chain out for every dog on the place so all my dogs have a chain spot and a kennel. also I have walk in 6x12s I like for old bitches and pups.A dog man that feed 10 dogs should have at least 5 of these for maitnance and healing of the dogs.

 

I am starting to build my first one today. I will let you know how I come out.

 

in AUSTRALIA most above ground set ups we use 1in x 1in weldmesh ,, everything falls thru and alot cleaner , the mesh will keep the dogs pads tuff ..

Kennel size 4x8

 

Is it wire mesh on top, or does it have a roof? It looks nice. It would seem that on a hot day it could get really warm in there without shade, which is why I am curious about the top. It looks like the sides are made from x-pen panels.

 

The top of the kennel is a 4x8 plywood sheet. Enough shade for the summer.

 

OK that makes sense. And it seems the open floor slats would allow a little breeze to move through it.

 

I really like this one, A LOT! Would you be willing to share the blueprints? I've been thinking about making something very similar to this, but in a 6'x10'. Any advice or drawings would be very helpful! Nice job.
