Yeah... I hear that they're great protection dogs. I also agree that our hounds should NOT be used as guard dogs...they'll protect their families naturally and when necessary. I can appreciate an animal that still performs the original task for what it was bred & used for....therefor, if I want a guard dog I will go with a Rottie (which I used to own in the 90's), American Bulldog, or even a Fila....certainly not an apbt. I mainly just posted the article because it shows that our dogs can do anything any other breed can do (or even better in some cases) and then whip it's a$$ when he gets through. But I agree...they shouldn't be used as guard dogs...especially in this day & age.

Damn madam...are you serious? You seem emotionally charged lol. Let's not get your panty hose in wad... I didn't know what a game dog was in 1981....relax. I usually don't get caught up in an internet mud slingin' match....it's pointless...like bringin' a cold hound to [].

HOWEVER...... I get the point...some novice may read the article and think it's cool to have a human aggressive apbt.....so I feel ya...but you have me confused and profoundly so.

But wait, werent Rotties herding dogs originally? I would be careful with a Fila, they are serious dogs and even when you think your ready, you still might not be lol
I would get a Mossler breed though, mine at age 2 just realized what she was supposed to do.

Lol it was actually pretty scary, 125lbs of pissed off bitch trying to get over a table to get at you is not the way you want to be greeted
It took me like 10 times of saying her name to get her to realize I wasnt some random person, and even then she growled at me and grumbled like she was baiting me into the house

They are good deterrents though and sometimes thats all you need, but every Rottie I ever met was a sucker for baby talk, even the "guard dog" ones would melt for some of that lol

It was one of those high up windows so it was awkward getting up and partway in and once I was up there I was kind of stuck lol thank God for the table though. If they didnt slobber so much I would love another EM, they are damn good dogs.

Its worth a try! Lol you never know, IMO thats a good way to see if a dogs gonna bite you or not. I pissed off a dude who owned a lot with a bunch of cars on it by baby talking his "protection" Rottie onto its back LOL
Although not all dogs are like that, so yours may not have done shit and ended up trying to get me

Pookie just one story to tell.......

One of my Rotts was launching at a friend of mine back then even he really did like this guy and has known him since a pup.
This guy was and still is arround my house almost on a daily base!
Once I didn´t hear him ringing as I was fixing some stuff he thought it would be ok to enter my yard and get into the house......
Well my Rott had a different kind of oppinion and nailed him down and this guy was better of not to move even an eyelid!

As I found them and came by the whole situation changed and the Rott have been again best friends with him!

Uhm what the hell are you talking about?

Lol each dog is different, and even if you make a "friend" with one through a fence, hopping into the yard is a whole different story.

Lol well when your wanting into a yard for a reason, you will try all kinds of things, baby talk and food usually work because most people dont have "good" dogs and think because its a certain breed or because it barks its head off its going to do something when someone hops in.

well said...99% of all dogs will bail when the shit hits the fan....it is just natural...they have fight drive and flight drive....99% of all dogs will choose flight over fight....it is genetically pre-dispositioned....insightful breeding....and training gets away from that 99% clip.....now i have not did any double blind scientifically sustained studies...but this i have done....dressed up in a suit and "broke" into my buddies' house....his female fila was there and would be there to the end....his rottweiler put on a display but folded under pressure....(1/2 show dog 1/2 working dog bred)....he returned the favor and my fila bailed...great dog just did not have what i thought he should....another fila i had did as well as his female....brought in one of my game bred dogs...patricks/two eyes/panther....and as long as he rubbed him on the head this dog would help him haul shit away....brought my rott in (sire from austria and dam from belgium with a ton of bite work experience himself...sch B title but would not track)....he met him at the door and damn near drove him back thru it....
now any of these dogs can be trained to bite and guard and protect if their genetic make-up will support it....but without the foundation of solid training and development....the dog will bail....
but the kicker to this is that 100% of all potential robbers do not know this..or won't take the chance on that 1%.....if you have a dog barking at the door they will choose another house down the road....this actually happened in rural NC yesterday....Ms. S. has the german shephard that her husband owned before he passed away....dog sleeps on the back porch....two guys kicked in the front door....dog goes ape shit...they haul ass....the funniest part is that dog loves to ride...if they open the truck door he is riding shotgun before you can blink....but he barked and they bailed...this story made me think of this post....US1

Some people like to claim the Game bred pitbull as a jack of all trades kind of dog, but the game bred pitbull is only a master in one LOL.
