Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by Curtisshield, Oct 9, 2011.

  1. Hi i have a couple off question's about conditioning bulldogs.. i came across this the springpole, and slatmill, i dont really no much about conditioning bulldog breeds or what age to introduce these techniques, i really want my pup to be strong atletic and to be at his best in looks and health not for any other purpose..i've done some research on youtube and they really look like they enjoy doing these exercise's obviously my pup is to young as off yet i was thinking around the age off 6 month's he already loves to pull on rope and other various item's so my question is really what age is best and what if he just isnt interested..also i want to purchase a slatmill asap but can't find one anywhere.. thanks in advance curtis.

He is still a pup, let him be a pup. You don't really want to work him until 18 months or 2 years. You can introduce him to the flirt pole but not for to long after 6 months intoduce the springpole but don't work him just make it fun. That way he relates work to fun.

introduce them young, so they can take to it with no problems when they get older. dont throw them into a full keep or anything, but there is no problem with them being on a slatemill, spring pole or flirtpole at a young age. i dont like spring pole myself and I think its a waste of time, but thats me. if you dont have a slatmill you can put them on a electric treadmill also. just be smart i dont ever put the dog adult or pup on the E-mill at speeds higher than 3.5 because they cant stop and if they try they can tear their pads off or seriously injurer themselfs internally. SLow and long is good, not fast and long on a emill. you can put a pup on a e-mill, but i wouldnt leave him on their for longer than 20 min at a speed of 3-3.5mphs which comes out to about a mile to 1.3 miles. roadwork is the key and all arround better to do than anything else and will get them plenty strong and in shape. before any mill work make sure they are completely empty. a dog will be empty with 2 bowl movements in a 24hr time period atleast mine are the way i feed. Just be smart anyone that wants to add or object to what i said please do so.

i like to attach those 5 dollar squeak animals to the flirtpole. they look like real squirrels and the "squeak" makes them "die" like real squirrels.

  9. Im with hardluck hes on money ido like spring pole and flirt pole it can enjure your dog and turn him off on jumping i dont use a treadmill i run them beside my bike and swim them a slate mill carpet or dedicated emill can be fighting parafanilya so be aware my advice is start early and find anouther dog tie both up close to where you work let one work get him hyped about it the othere watching should feel teased when hes hyped tie him up let the othere play and get his toy then when hes hyped tie him up do a couple of switch overs then put them up wanting more makes a hard doggie
