dna?

Discussion in 'APBT Bloodlines' started by sixcolorsoneluv, Jul 22, 2011.

  1. i just got a male that my uncle gave me with no papers and my buddy has told me abt gettin a dna test done on him to find out wha his bloodline is. is it true wha my buddy is tellin me? i mean i know some breeders do it to prove that his dog's peds r true. but i didnt know it could be done without a ped? can anybody talk to me about this?

  2. Unless you want to spend a ton of money it can't be done

  3. well my buddy told me its only about 50 bucks to get it done with adba..i dunno maybe i should call em up

  4. but they do not search a database to find where your dog came from. If your dogs sire and dam are in the database after testing they will say yes your dog is off them or no it is not. they do not seach the database and do a dna comparision

Dude, don't listen to your buddy. He don't know shit. Ask your Uncle if the dogs parents are registered. There is no DNA test to tell you what family of dogs your dog is. They can only compare your dogs DNA to his parents or siblings. What your buddy is leading you to believe is complete bullshit. Yeah, they have some little test on line that will tell you what breed of dog, but our dogs will always come back as "mixed" breed.

No, they can tell you if your dog is related to another dog or not.
For instance the DNA of dog X is in their system and you want to compare it to your dog A, which you believe to be related. DNA-test will show if dog X and A are really related or not.
However, like someone else told in this topic, you can't let them take DNA of dog A and expect them to run it against everything in their system. That would cost you a fortune.

If I'm not mistaken...the FBI is also using Databases to convict suspected dogfighters as well. Let's say they raid a dogfight in action. And somewhere in the vicinity you may have been there a week earlier or what have you and your dog took a dump. Well they would use that dump's DNA and run it against the dogs they have in their databases. And if you dog comes up let's say a littermate to the dog's confiscated in a raid...then now you have the spotlight on you as well as the person or persons who may have bred said dog. DNA is a good way to track and authenticate your dog's bloodline, but just know that their are pitfalls in doing so. The old "bait and switch". We're offering DNA analyst to authenticate your dog...while at the same time...we're using your dog's DNA to help build up our bloodline database so we can use DNA to prosecute you. Noooo thank you! lol

You beat me to it nfahred.
The SPCA, HSUS etc are the only ones maintaing a database where you can enter in an unknown dogs dna and find out who it is related to. They can tell you if you have a direct match or a more distant relation to the fighting dogs in their database....but I wouldn't reccommend using it, lol.

This seems like a stretch. At the least I have a hard time believing it would stand up in court.

I dont know why you would find it hard to believe it would stand up in court when you live in a state that charges a person with murder when they clearly know the person didnt pull the trigger. lol
