just curious i understand the differance between aggressivenes and gameness, are any gamedogs easy going around other dogs, not displaying an interest in another dog until its time to get busy?

Gameness has NOTHING to do with dog aggression. I have heard that Nigerino and other greats weren't DA until it was go time, and then they brought the heat big time so a lack of DA doesn't mean a lack of gameness.

thanks cliffdog, i never personally new any deep game dogs, and i admire that trait in a dog. its kinda like the quit person that appears to be mild mannered but when that person needs to take a stand you see this guy who has training in boxing or wrestling and all of a sudden you see the other guy fighting for his life!!

Lol, Yeah, that's a good comparison. I'm sure many game dogs are DA, but not all of them are.

Gameness comes nowhere near the same subject as DA there two completely diffrent kettle of fish.

Don't feel bad Cliff...Most people have never seen or known a deep game dog either. Are they all DA? No they're not but the majority of them are.

Livy that still blows my mind how some of these dog's out side the box could be around other dog's and be cool. Put them in the box and they are like Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde! LOL Crazy stuff right there. Gameness is a trait within this breed that is def to be admired and respected without actually witnessing it first hand we can only begin to understand it as it's been told by other dog men. Seeing it is to truly understand what it's all about.

Really, IMO, it just came down to these dogs knowing when to goof off and when to get down to business. Work was work, not a game, and they knew when it was time to work.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but a dog's will to work in the [ ] is not gameness. Gameness comes to play when the dog is hurt, losing, close to death, and he still wants more (will to fight overrides the will to stay alive).
The ability and will to battle another dog is achieved by schooling the dog little by little, it can be taught (to some extent ofc). Gameness on the other hand can not, either the dog has it or doesn't.

    Hi there!

It´s not an easy task to describe exactly how it works!

First of all a good percentage is Dog Aggressive, they are used to be that way.
But there are some that are quite intelligent to deter if a dog / situation rises the need to fight!
Meaning another dog is attacking them or the known situation in the box!
I have seen some tested dogs getting arround good with other dogs without any problems but the majority doesn´t once started.
Concerning gameness it´s the desire to continue and not loosing confidence at all.
A decent gamedog takes a heavy beating by another and still even if he´s frustrated, stressed and exhausted tries to fight back. He´s pretty confident in itself even if things ain´t going his way!

If you want to get a clue check the Savich´s Ch. Iron Kid thread, there is a link to one match against Homer, there you can see that homer was most of the time in trouble but always tried to fight back, even if Iron Kid didn´t let him do much. At the end he just fell down and was unable to scratch as he was totally exhausted and took heavy beating.

This dog showed to be a decent example of a solid one, even if he was totally busted by Iron Kid and couldn´t stand against him, he isn´t really to blame for his loss as Iron Kid was plain and simple the better dog there!
So if you are watching the video keep your eye on Homer.

As many already mentioned, there are/were game dogs that were tolerant to other dogs off the chain, but they were the minority and very far in between, would I let any pitbull let alone a game pitbull with other dogs unatended in the backyard, hell no ...................

some of the dogs we had years back would kill each other if one got off the chainspot, funny thing is my dads lab would wonder around the yard and the dogs wouldnt give 2 shits about the lab. but as soon as another bulldog got within reach shit would be all bad.

    shits weird

Well I have a male that is totally hell on wheels DA. He can also back it up if need be, but there are dogs that he simply does not bother with. It is amazing to see how he reacts from dog to dog. All strange dogs trotting down the street loose gets a huge reaction from him. Dogs in the show arena mostly get a huge response. But I also happen to have a well bred APBT that is old enough to be turned but has not yet, don't know if he ever will, but this dog gets no reaction whatsoever. He will allow this dog to play bow at his crate and stick his nose right into his crate with out a care. Amazes me. I wouldn't dare let them loose together but it is strange.
