keystone for building a yard

When building a yard what do you go for? The best male you've got? A phenomenal bitch? Or the best dog, regardless whats tucked between their legs. How many chances would you give that dog before making a judgement on its production and what are you looking for that dog to produce in its offspring?

Just trying to get some good discussion going. add whatever you'd like to your response.

i reckon i would grab up the best bitch of whatever line i wanted and i would back her up to the best male producing the best bulldogs and give her 2 breedings before i would really make a call on her production and she better be producing some damn good all around bulldogs with a lil bit of everything but the name of the game is "game" so i guess i would look for that most of all... my .02 cents that ain't worth half a penny

I would want a great proven female and find the best stud I could afford to breed to her. I'd give her three breedings before I decided on her production. Gameness to me is above all else, but physically I'd hope for a little bit of everything, hopefully with a good bite.

History shows that the best yards started with quality females. Most yards get their studs from that one special female. So I feel its a no brainer. Maloney was all about the females and never let his prime ones go anywhere......... his record in breeding could be something to aspire to.

i would get the best two working females i can afford from two different lines breed them to their best litter mate...give the females 2 litter chances to see if she can produce...compare the two lines to see what is lacking and where u can cross to provide the missing links...
