Not saying I would sell any dogs with defects, although I've never had any. What I'm saying is I don't sell the dogs I want to keep for my self. If it's something I'm gonna sell it's a cull in my eyes. Now if it goes on to be a bulldog. I'd probably try to get something off it.

U only cull puppies if they come out with defects!...the one u don't want have them spayed or neutered and place into homes...that way the bloodline will stop when he or she die and the dog is useless as far as breeding

I don't see why, personally. If I bred I would rather have my dog euthed than put into a stranger's home as a pet, who knows what would become of them. If I bred these dogs I would ONLY want my pups in the hands of other dedicated game-bred APBT owners, not your average Joe. And what game-bred APBT owner is going to want someone's cull?

then u keep them...but I'm talking about if u didn't want to keep them..plenty of responsible owners out there, u just have to find them if u don't kno them already...makes no since just to kill a puppy just cause u don't have the space to take care of them..let him live his life...he didn't ask to be in this world, u made the decision to bring him here so let him live with someone who will love him and do right by him....that's just my opinion!...I will only cull a pup for defects...other than that I'm keeping all them or placing into good homes spayed or neutered if they are not a working kennel

Im no breeder, never did a breeding but culling comes along with selection based in the breeders' standard. So a unhealthy pup or with birth defects would affect his performance and/or ability to produce those. So thats the only case a responsible culling should be done.

Culling because of the litter size is too long, well, thats your problem because you should expect from 1 up to 12 pups in a litter and you should be ready for that. If you do so, maybe you are culling the best pup in the litter and you aint giving those pups the chance to prove themselves.... because pups are just pups, and if you do a good breeding all of them should look and act alike.

The problem i see is most breeders treat his dogs as livestock, do not have enough space, spare time or money to do things right and with that you cant expect good results coming off this.

Just my 0,2€ based in common sense.

you cull when your standards are not met so if your standard is based on color and the pups dont meet it then cull show dogs get culled early and performance dogs get culled when its time to preform all depends on your standard now dont it u show or u go pretty simple

For example, there is a guy that said in a forum that he'll throw pups in a tank with water and cull the ones that didnt surface. Well, thats his standard and probably his dogs are the best retrievers ever after generation after generation of this selection. But i doubt his standard would be appropiate for any breed that works out of water.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree, I feel like a person has a right to kill his dogs (his property) for any reason he wants, although it seems cruel even to me sometimes. I wouldn't place a pup of mine into an average pet home. I wouldn't want to sell or give a respectable APBT owner one of my culls (unless he specifically wanted a pup). And I would only feed the very best so unworthy dogs would have to be put down.
But I respect your opinion and how you feel about it, to each his own.

I only cull pups due to defects or medical.I will cull any dog that I deam a threat to people.
The one breeding that ive sold pups since i got back in it went cheap to friends, and i know were they are and have made great dogs, hell at the shop is katie our office dog that gets love from everyone that come's in,max go's to rest home's .I dont see it as a must, dont get me wrong if thats what you want to do thats your bussiness and doesnt bother me a second.
Now if your selling your curs then thats a problem.

ok a little clearer this time if a man breeds for the box you all know around about what those standards would be and if he breeds for a show dog what would standards be and what about weight pull or catch dog or protection sports ring or shultz or real personal protection just good family dogs the standard and cull vary to wich you choose to breed and work your dogs for now that being said a real dogman or women knows the historical ability of this breed of dog so in a litter of pups they may all reach the standard of one of these types or they may have several of these types in one litter so to not let the dog age and mature you could be missing out on the best ever of one or more of these purposes but also you may never have a consistant type of dog if you do not choose your standard that you breed for and cull hard for that said standard hope this makes sense to ya and if it dont get a cat

I don't kno wat ur cull standards are but my culling don't start till around 15 months or l8r...anything under that would be cause of a defect!...I kno alot of good ppl I could give dogs as house/yard pets and they will live like kings/queens...but everybody has their own method of doing things and if it's ur dogs u can do Watever u want with them

I also don't breed but personally i would cull hard i believe there are certain standards to uphold and I would REFUSE to sell or give pups to anyone that i dont know what there into theres enough negative stigma about our dogs to give them or sell them to any Tom Dick and Harry. You are in the wrong business with the wrong dogs if you cant stomach culling

sure you may be culling the best, but you may as well be culling the junk, who knows? its ALL a gamble anyway. i just feel that a new mama might not do well under the stress of a large litter and that will affect every pup. so why risk it? sure you expect 12, but hope for 8 healthy ones. thats my way of thinking.

and as for your breeding producing all of them looking and acting alike, its just not that simple. ive only had a few litters in my time, off good dogs, and i just must not have been that lucky. if you are, more power to ya

Basically what it all comes down to is that as long as you own the dogs/pups you can cull them for what ever reason you want too. Even serious AKC conformation show dog people will cull pups if they are born with a slight underbite.

If you are making a breeding, the breeding should have some type of purpose or goal. If your responsible you will have people ready to home the pups you cant, or wont keep before the breeding is made. If the newborn pup has a birth defect that will keep it from functioning, culling is an option. Unless you are a show breeder, there really isnt another reason to cull a pup. Your breeding dogs, not puppies, so you need to wait until it matures to make a decision. IMO
