Bad Billy

Discussion in 'APBT History' started by Marooda Kennels, Apr 28, 2011.

  1. Do anyone have stories and or pictures of, and, about Bad Billy? I believe he was owned by a Russian I think. I remember reading a story of one of his matches and his style in the pit.

  4. Is this the Bulldog that main focus was the chest, I remember reading something, I just cannot remember but it said what he used to do was target the chest, go under the other Bulldog and never let go. Is this true?

That is correct, liked chest hold. Not sure who Ben is thinking of. There was a very good article on him in YFM in the late 90s.

Yea he's talkin bout smith and waltons, we had some of his offspring (or grandkidss) on the yard at one time. Unfortunately the neihbor shot the best one we had, lost our male to testicular cancer, and they're littermate sister died iving birth.

Smith & Waltons Ch Bad Billy.

Me and skeet went to alabama to see that killin' dog we'd heard so much about,a cheast eater whod leave'em dead in the pit. billy was in a keep pen the first time i saw him,he was shiny black a horse head and evil eyes. his cutters were strong and thick, his hangers were as long as my littel finger. if there was such a thing as a killer, i thought this might be it. we wanted him but he sure was not for sale.the man said he was matched in a month and we should come back and take a look. luck was on our side. a bad economy and a failing marriage made billy available for a price if he won his match we'd take him home.this was billy 4th match-- he'd won his first threeand killed 2 of the dogs in the pit. skeet could not get away, so i went to root billy on. there weren't many of the 200 people there on his side. alot of folks told me billy was gonna meet his match that night.there was a slick ear dog who'd make billy stand the line. it must have been talk cause i could only get $125, giving 2 to 1 odds. no body likes a winner . the dogs hit like two 50 pound rockets. billy drove for his hold, but the ear dog could dance.he kept billy out for 20 minutes and looked real fancy until he got stuck in a corner. billy locked on his chest and lifted his front end off the ground. the hair stood up on the back of my neck as billy drove deeper and deeper up into the chest. 16 minutes later billy spit him out and went to the throat. the dog was dead. his chest looked like he had been shot with buckshot and some of his rib bones were pulled through the skin. billy ate a few peanut and we went home. i called skeet & told him we were the proud owbers of a one in a millon.we made plans and the wold sure looked good.i kept billly with me and we became good friends.we saw the county together and he never spent another night out side. he would play with other dogs and i could let him run loose. it was hard to believe he was a devastating killer. billy was the dog i'd been looking for since i was a boy-- a gentle friend & yet a punisher & a finisher.skeet and me looked for the best 50 pounder in the county. we wanted to know if he was realy the best! a grand champion came out of retirment to try us. we bet more money than we had but god we had faith in that dog. i conditioned billy myself. he developed a cough during the keep but the vet said it was just kennel cough and not to worryabout it . i worried a bit about the cough and my ability to shape billy against one of the best dogs and dogmen in the county. it was cold and raining in texas. billy and me drove there and skeet met us there,it was sure lonely in that motel room. we asked a friend who had been where we were long ago to come help. he came and bought 5 or 6 friends. i counted over 50 on the other side. a masonic brother was the ref. we simply asked for a fair fight. i still woundr if he thinks we got one. the pit floor was a piece of blue plastic. i threw a fit, but it was that or go home.so i stayed it was a good fight. it was billys most important one. he got the grand champion's chest at about ten minutes and crossed his eyes. i knew we'd won it but as billy drove in he slipped on th e plastic and the grand champion got away . he was a smart one. he and the plastic didnt letbilly get him again. for a hour billy slipped and tried and then crashed. for 30 minutes more the grch chewed on a down dog billy finally closed his eyes, folks told me he was dying. i think he was, i could not get him to his feet. i snapped my fingersand billy bit towards the sound and grabbed my pants leg. i believed he was game, but i think i was the only one. i conceded the fight at 1:33, providing i get a courtesy scatch.it was important. billy was limp in my arms. i didn't think he could go. i layed him on the floor. he stumbled across and crawled into the grch. i broke him off with a stick .i felt terrible, yet billy only greater in my eyes.my only thought was saving billy. the friend who came to help, saved his life and ill always be greatful billy just would not give in.i kept him in bed with me so i could feel his body heat.it was a long drive home for me and billy.everyone figured billy was finshed . even skeet lost the heart to go on. i cant blame him,as it took us a year to pay off the loss. the world sure looked bleak. i believed that billy lost because of the plastic, eventhough he fought a great dog. i needed to know if billy could beat the gr ch on a carpet. i made a offer, but therewas no chance . the gr ch's owner made me feel a little better when he told me i had the better dog,but he was the better dogman. the gr ch is dead now. billy and me shed a tearwhen he died ,for a great dog,and the lost chance to know for sure whether it was the plastic or not. there have been killer dogs and there have been desperatly game ones.that night in texas proved billy was both. that last scratch was billys moment of truth, and was worth all his kills. it was joe louis looking up at rocky marciano, knowing what could have been.billy pulled though but was meesd up for the better part of a year. the cough turned out to be vally fever. after a yearof treatments and thanks to a new drug, billy became one of the first dogs to survivethe disease, although it left him with a cough forever.i started to mack new plans. i rolled himto see if he had anything left.he demolished a white one in 11 minutes.the white ones owner still has nightmares about a old scarred demon eating his dogs chest.billy turned seven. if he was going to battel again,it had to be soon.i decided to trya ch that had a reputation. his owner and the gunslinger who handled him had even bigger reputations. i conditioned billy again, this time he looked a lot better. a man helped me and thanks to him my conditioning improvedand billy benefitted. i knew biily would win.he felt good,as we walked into the pit he peed and threw dirt 20 feet. the gunslinger was waiting for us with the ch in the pit.billy got his chest hold early ,and at 5 minutes the black blood hit the floor.he ratteled the lungs .billy drove him up and pulled the muscle from the bone.the gunslinger know it was over but never gave up. billy ate the chest for 17 minutes. the ch scratched when he should not have.billy toyed with him for a hour, dragging him around the pit,not going for the throat until the ch could no longer lift his head.at an hour and 11 billy hit the throat and the ch was dead. he was a good one.the killer had returned. billy sealed his place in history. the storys spread across th county and he finally got the recognition he deserved. billy stopped a 62 pounder in 32 minutes one week later, but that did not go on his record.the big one just was't in the same league. i rolled billy one final time for some friends.he was fat off the chain and gassed out early.but he drove into the chest for a fleeting moment. after being thrashed around for 30 minutes he stopped the other dog and scratched hard and true for the last time. billy loves the,and there are a lot of them. my hopes lie with his sons.friendsthat have seen billy go tell me how glad theythat they got to see a real killer in action.people call fromaround the county to ask if he realy pulled bones out?and if he could really bite that hard? yes and he could.words will be written and storys will be told forever about the black chest killin dog.many will be exaggerated with time, but the truth is enough.as i lay down each nightand spend a hour or so before sleep, reflecting on the past and looking to the future.i dont see billy driving into the the chest or killing dogs in his jaws.i feel him in my arms on that cold texas night at 1:33 and see him crawling completing that impossible scratch.i feel proud and fortunate to have been with him for that one special moment. and the world sure looks good. b. smith
