Quick question for the ''REAL DOGMEN'' because I'm too dumb to know
If you have a gyp in heat an you are planning of breeding her in 4 days, would you go ahead an give her a 7+1 & wormers before the breeding or is it too late IYO ?
    Thanks...

Damn JD I was gonna give my opinion till I saw the ''REAL DOGMEN''. lol We use Ivomec faithfully and have never had any problems. Pups are "clean" when checked out also. Never gave the bitch a 7+1 when in heat but start the pups on thier 5-way's as soon as they're old enough.

Not sure about the "real dogmen" quote either, but I would definitely worm her now. How old is she? Is she healthy? When was the last time she was given a 7 in 1?

Yeah I said Real Dog Men because like I said, I'm too dumb to know
She is healthy, old enough an worthy of being bred. She would be due for a 7in1 next month an will be due for wormer in two weeks.

Thanks Tim I was always told NOT to give a 7 in 1 wile in heat by a few other folks also, but some wannabe ''DOGMAN'' like myself wants to have a debate about it so I figured I would get som opinions from other folks.

Also its ok to treat with Ivomec &
Strongid T till 72 hours before breeding.

i dunno if i would give the 7 in 1 now, being in heat already puts a stress on the immune system, and generally you want to vaccinate a non-stressed immune system. all in all tho, it probably wouldn't hurt her. but if it was me, i woudln't. especially if she's had at least two 7 in 1 vaccines on time before. her titers should be fine enough to wait until after she's weaned. just vaccinate the pups when they're 6 weeks and everything should be fine.

the de-wormer is perfectly fine to give now tho. i'd go ahead and do that at least. clean her out real good before she gets preg.

A far as the wormer is concerned you can worm her while he is pregnant.

a bitch's heat cycle last around 21days not just a week she will usually let a stud in around the 10-14 day of the heat cycle then you have a open window around 4-7 days she will start flagging and standing for your male .the heat cycle is split up in 4 groups Anestrusis,Proestrus,Esterus,Metestrus. the Proestrus stage is when the bitch will stand for a stud and let him do his handy work lol

Give the bitch her 7 in 1 when you give the puppies their first 5 in 1.

Your better off waiting and giving her the shots and dewomer for after she whelps the litter. Any little thing can throw off her cycle and if she's healthy already, why risk it. The pups and mom should still be wormed out regularly after the litter drops anyway, so in my opinion why not play it safe and wait till after she drops the litter. JMO
