Anyone owned or known of any skittish dogs that ended up being really good dogs? Just curious...

There have been quite a few historically. I have found that shy dogs are often very intelligent. If they are young, with lots of exposure and socialization they can completely grow out of it. If they are older the prognosis is a more guarded, but still is possible with a lot of patience and handling.

There are a lot of good skittish dogs. We've got one that I like a lot. Just bred to him and I got a little female off of him that's pretty good. He's a very good animal himself.

I've had some skittish dogs turn into AMAZING dogs. Takes some work but they can definitely gain some confidence. My first girl was REALLY skittish, and by the time she was five, most people couldn't believe it when I told them what a sensitive girl she was in her earlier years. She definitely ''came into her own'' so to speak. lol

Oh my goodness. I have a little female that is sooooo skittish with people she doesn't know. Loves her own family dearly and is ultra sweet with pups not even her own, but cannot stand a stranger for anything.
Bites like a bear and will scratch on males or females don't matter a lick.
She will turn cartwheels in the air to get at another dog.

I dont like a skittish dog. I will feed one if Im happy with it other than its skittishness, but its not a trait I like in the breed. I like an out going dog.

i was asking from a historical perspective. i've found skittish dogs arent easily stolen and they protect better. not sayin i prefer them but i've had a few and they had some advantages. can anyone think of anymore well known dogs that were skittish?

they also tend to alarm back at least in my experience which scares people off or lets me know when someone is on my property. depending on an individuals circumstance this may or may not be a good thing.

my pup is a little skiddish he doesnt like people he doesnt kno wont come up to anyone outside the family unless "formally" introduced

  17. would u say some dogs throw scary? or would u link it to the pups grow'n up with little human cantact? i would think that if u can get them young and loose the whole skittishness then that wasnt a bread trait.

its thrownin certain lines for sure. It can also be due to events or the upbringin of the dog ie lack of human contact. i relly just wanted to see some titled skittish dogs
