Any Dogmen from Mississippi?

I am currently located in Hattiesburg, MS and I was wondering if there were any other dogmen on this site that were in my area. You can read my introduction page to learn more about me, but I've been in the dogs for a while now but kinda just taking a renewed interest in discussing them and meeting other people . True American Pit Bull Terrier fanciers are few and far between around here (everybody wants a blue bully), so just looking to make a few contacts.

    Thanks,
    Brian

Probably fairly well. They share a lot of the same blood through Maverick & Art. My Zebo comes in through Huey & Nigger Toby. I also carry a lot of Lonzo blood as well.

I too used to think there wasn't anything in MS., but there is a lot of nice gamebred blood here if you know where to look.

    Blessings ...

Appreciate the responses. Somebody asked about my blood. All I have is a Jeep/Red Boy male right now. Everything I've had is either that or Red Boy/ Jocko. Kinda looking to stay away from that Red Boy/Jocko from now on though. They just don't seem like good "pet" dogs to me. Mine were too noisy and had too high of a prey-drive. Kinda OCD almost. I don't mind them hot, but they atleast got to pay attention you know. I think the Jeep/Red Boy makes a good mix, but what I really want is a solid Boudreaux dog. They are hard to find here because Boudreaux dogs are so plentiful people just breed them any which a way. Not many of them doing it the right way.

A solid Boudreaux dog is not hard to find. Go to a show in MS., you will be tripping over them. ;)

I've had several myself but be forewarned - they can be destructive. They'll chew houses, bowls & buckets among other things. I remember one time I came home from work to find one of my Boudreaux gyps had shredded my privacy fence! And she didn't do it at the bottom where I could just patch it, she jumped UP to pull each plank down & once she broke it she shredded it into splinters. She destroyed 8 feet of my fencing before I got home!

They also can be noisy - they can keen like a banshee when it's feeding time or if another dog just looks at them sideways. They're definitely not good "pet" material at all unless you have the time to exercise them - a lot, or have a place where they can self-exercise. They like to run. Sometimes they will even run circular ditches at the edge of their chain spots!

Other than that, they're great dogs. Wonderful temperaments, very loving but high maintenence, at least that has been my experience anyway.

    Happy holidays! :)

ABK, thanks for that information. I probably won't be at any shows anytime soon. My layoff the past few years lost me a few contacts and the best dogman I know got shot in the head a year or so ago. He made it through, but he just ain't the same. I'm not sure he even knows who I am anymore. The man knew dogs like nobody I know, but he also had a tendency to lie. I won't go so far as to say he was a paper hanger, but you just never knew what to believe with this guy. He had been involved since the 60's, bred a few champs, and owned a real nice daughter of Macho Buck until recently. Anyways, I've heard some of the things you mentioned especially the knack for chewing. I don't mind a high maintenance dog, they give me something to do lol. My main concern is that the dog gets along well with people and that he will hunt. I've just never seen one I really liked. They've all been touched by the wrong hands. I've had the opportunity to buy a few, but they were either untrainable in my opinion or looked like hell. I've always been more into buying adult dogs than pups, but outstanding grown dogs rarely get sold for an affordable price. People don't let go of their good ones you know.

Beaudreaux dogs are definitly high maintenence. The couple that I have had were drop dead gorgeous though.

I've had some ugly ones & I have had some lookers. But it can be ugly as a homemade mud fence, I'll still keep it. To me it's what's inside that counts! ;)

    Happy holidays! :)

I agree that looks aren't everything, but there is a point to them. To an extent, the look of a dog can be an indicator of it's quality or ability. I'm not saying pretty dogs are winners and ugly dogs are losers, but their body shape, muscle tone, head shape/size, all highlight what they were bred to do. If the dog don't look right there is probably a reason. Dogmen don't want a good looking dog because it is "pretty", they want it because it is true to type and sometimes better bred. This is my opinion and it may not make sense the way I said it, but I assure you the point I am trying to get across makes sense lol.

An example that just popped into my head concerning those greyhounds somebody was talking about in another post. Without those deep chests they wouldn't have the ability to breathe right and run fast. So to a greyhound person that is attractive. Does that make more sense?
