People hate me for telling this story. Ruffian were gamedogs at one time, they were handled by real dog people over 60-70 years ago and very few have used correctly since then. It was even speculated that Carver used Ruffian in his dogs and vice versa. The Ruffian dogs are still good in terms of conformation if you like heavy bone structure. They are the tightest decendants of blackjack alive today but they have lost their place in the gamedog world. One of my favorite staffs and if I was going to own a AM Staff or a pitbull it would be them but they are no replacement or equivalent to the bulldog.

This website should tell you everything you need (link below). From origin to modern day dogs, complete with peds & pictures. A great site really. Too bad APBT people do not create sites like this one for their own bloodlines/strains. But anyway, happy reading! :)
