I know Ol Roy isnt the top of the line food but I'm in college and money is somewhat of an issue. I bought a bag of Ol Roy the brown bag high performance what are you guys thoughts on this brand. Or does anyone have any suggestions on a brand thats not as expensive.

Its a cheep ass brand with lots of fillers etc..... with that said. Thats what I feed. Never had one issue in any of my dogs with ol roy. There is going to be more poop to scoop with any of the cheep brands vs the high doller kibble. I would not feed ol roy or any kibble for that madder when working a dog.

Kirklands is good and cheap , but i found you need to add beef fat and they started getting some skin issues, but with the fat no issues i used to feed my dogs Kirklands, ol roys crap, more chemicals then goodness in it,
if moneys an issue and there outside dogs, get a freezer and a butcher connection for scraps and on kill day grab a garadge freezer full of meat and bones and organs, some gloves and a good knife;) Your hound will thank you amd for the cost of one butcher trip and power to run a freezer, (approx. $60) you can feed 10 dogs a month. save your money for other needed supplies

Guy I know that raises American bulldogs feeds Ol'Roy with a raw chicken thigh or leg. Has nice looking animals. If I had to feed cheaper than what I do I would us Purina. I fed my bulldog pup Purina puppy before switching to Diamond recently.

I feed Dads Bite Size Meal Chicken and Rice Flavor. It's $20.46 for a 55 pound bag at Sams Club. My dogs to better on that then they did Diamond. I won't feed ol' Roy. My dogs poop is nice, hard, and solid on that food. For keeps I use Dog Lovers Gold.

Old roys great if you want to let your dog shit blood. Diamonds cheap and a lot of people on the boards feed it.

How many dog's do you have? And what are you willing to spend on dog food per month ideally? The best thing you could do is put your dog on grain free feed free from filler's ect.... If you only have one dog a 30-40lb should last you an entire month I have always fed my adult dogs 2 1/2 cups per day so a 30lb bag lasted a month for one dog. For a good feed your looking at close to $40.00 a bag for the largest size bag and it goes up from there based on the brand. If your not willing to spend that kind of money I have heard that Kirkland is a decent feed and as someone stated it can be purchased at costco and many dog's seem to do well on it from what I have been told by those who feed it. Good Luck to you:)

Why would you feed ol'roy when you can feed much better food for cheaper from the feed store?

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of wally world and their anti-union stance. I just think you should feed better food since it is cheaper anyway.

You can get a 50 lb bag of diamond for 22 bucks! Or, a 50 lb bag of 27-22 for 14 bucks!

You can't beat that even at wally-world.

I have never fed Diamond but I saw it at the local feed store and it was around $28.99 almost $30.00 I don't know if it varies based upon geographic location but I feed EVO and that is about $60.00 for an almost 30.00 lb bag. Last time I was at walmart I believe Ol roy start's at $10.00 and goes up to like $20.00 maybe a little more give or take a few bucks.

I must be getting a good deal. I just bought two 40lb bags of the Diamond extreme athlete 32-25 for $23 each. I assumed it was that price everywhere. Just price checked it on the internet. It looks like most places sale it for about $32.

The shitting blood part was exaggerated.
Seriously: When I was a broke college student I fed ol roy to my eli pup when I couldn't afford diamond. It made him shit a lot more compared to when he was on better quality foods. It has a lot of filler in it, which a lot of the more expensive foods dont contain.

This is from a product review site on Ol Roy:
"The first ingredient is corn. Let's talk about corn, people. Dog's bodies are not engineered to digest corn. It is simply a filler; they cannot digest it at all, so the dog's body doesn't use it. It is pooped out and causes gas. So that means YOU, as the owner, picks up a lot of unnecessary poop! Second is soybean meal. Soy, like corn, was never meant to be digested by dogs. The body can't even use it! DO NOT be fooled into thinking these are wholesome "vegetables". Thirdly, is whole wheat. Whole wheat is good for us, but canines have NEVER thrived on grain. They thrive on protein. Fourth, comes the greatest of all- corn syrup. Oh, good. Sugary deliciousness. There isn't a "meaty" product until the sixth ingredient, which is poultry fat. Fat is a poor source of usable energy, and causes gas, diarrhea and weight gain. This food is full of preservatives that are extremely harmful to your pet."

http://www.bornfreeusa.org/facts.php?more=1&p=359 Is an article that might help explain

I feed blue buffalo (TOTW is a cheaper alternative) to my pup and the older dogs are all on diamond.

ol roys not top notch, your dogs will live, but feeding for long periods of time will make results diffrent, than say feeding for 1-4 mos. , what you feed your hound will show in the long run, in energy and performance, and looks.

theres a lot of stuff you can add to the old roy to make it better, eggs, yougurt, cottage cheese, fish oils ,chicken with bones , mutivitamines, they dont need all of this, but the odd one of anyone or these ingredients will make the meal more nutritional,

if a guy runs out of hound feed he/she cooks up rice and chicken , the rice is filler and we know that, but thats the point dogs not hungry anymore, and got some nutrition from the meat and bones..

like the other folks said do what you got to do to feed your hound/s!
