Delta Airlines will do it. They don’t have breed restrictions. I gave them a Date of Nov 10th. The price they quoted me was $625 based on a weight of 20 lbs. Also the flight goes from Louisville KY to Atlanta GA to Johannesberg SA I am waiting on an email from the SA consulate for word on requirements and breed restrictions. I will have to
have 2 health certificates from my vet one is bilingual and good for 4 months. The other is for the airline and only good for 10 days. They both cost $10. The pup also has to have the USDA stamp the bilingual certificate (cost $28.25). There also has to be a microchip which costs $15.85 and $50 for the kennel for the dog to travel in. The trip to louisville travel will cost me probably $25 in gasoline. So based on all the prices I have been given your total expense will be $764.10 (Kennel weight included) for shipping and $800 for the pup. which rounds to $1564.00
    US dollars.

Of course this is an estimate as I am waiting on word from the African Consulate. If they have charges that will be required I will add them accordingly.

Im sure if you have done some research you will see that this line of dogs Bolio/Butkus stands out as a phenominal line of dogs that ANYONE ANYWHERE in the WORLD can be proud of. :-)

FEPB: You will need to get a South African import permit from the State Vet and courier it to your dog supplier/shipper in which ever country they reside. The doc needs to accompany your dog. Normally the timing of these events is where breeders on the other side fall short. Both Open House and Southern Kennels have dropped the ball on this one. Meaning more costs for reapplication for a permit as well as couriering it.

For payment via international money transfer you will need an invoice from your supplier. Normally takes a week to 10 days for the money to reflect in their account.

    We are fighting the ban:

To all fanciers of the breed,

The debacle that we have here in PE with the municipality is going to be a landmark occasion. So far nobody nor any of the two clubs (the Union & the federation) has challenged the municipalities that are guided by the the SPCA and KUSA in terms of their dog by-laws. Discriminatory and restrictive is just the first step to ban the Pit Bull, IF it goes unchallenged. The time is now .... to stand up and be counted. Step up, or stand back - the time for casual talk is over. Our action must be FORMAL and we must talk with ONE VOICE - not different and uncordinated actions by individuals that are not up to this task.

So refrain from phoning KUSA or the SPCA - you waste your time.
KUSA will never accept the Pit Bull, that is no secret.
Myself and Dr. Dries Ferreira had a meeting with Greg Eva way back in the early 90's.
They wanted to register our dogs - clearly a money issue for the.
The talks fail, because they would not accept the cropping of ears.
So much for their double standards ... and I will confront them with this in court when we get there.
He will have his task cut out for him.

The UKC registers Pit Bulls since 1898
The ADBA register Pit Bulls since 1909
Even if they accept the Boerboel as a pure bred, they do not do their registrations.
No Boerboel can be registered if it has not obtained more than 75 score points.
This typically happens when the dog is 2 years old so it can also be tested for HD that is rife in the breed.
I assited the Boerboelvereniging (SABT) with their breed standard in 1994 as they still struggled with many problems in their breed. I gave them a breeding program how to improve their breed. I also and gave them a judging form that I compile for our breed so they could amend it where necessary. Kobus Rust and Lukas van der Merwe represented the SABT at the time.

Do go to your municipality and obtain the Dog By-Law (they are different - there is no uniformity as yet)
KUSA and SPCA are working in this regard to get it uniform the way they want it.
They, the SPCA cooperate daily with the municipalities and they need to act in a cohesive fashion.
Thus the collaborate and the SPCA here as in the USA do have an agenda against the Pit Bull.
Don't be fooled because you know an individual at the SPCA that is pro Pit Bull.
We see their (and their sympathisers) ignorant and negative comments daily in the press.

Regarding the municipality's statement in the letter to Rudie that they have adopted this policy way back in 1982 is highly questionable. I for one, do not believe this. In fact I have challenged them formally on this. Even it it were to be so, it is not cast in stone and needs to be challenged, and then amended. This cannot stand. There is a procedure of 'public participation' that is prescribed that we have to follow when we object and that is a daunting task that Joe Soap is not up to. This should be left to nominated breed representatives and legal councel to 'negotiate' with the Local Government (yes, the minicipality is loacl government and act in the same way as our parliamant, just at local level and not national level. Without detailing all the issues in this by-law, I wish to state that the whole document must be subjected to scrutiny and this is another part of our battle.

The first part of the battle is one of selective discrimination against our beloved breed.
We need to convice them, or if need be, force them to accept our breed, and its representative bodies (clubs & registry)

I have made a strong case to them that they have acted outside the scope of their mandate.
I have invited them to meet with our represenatives in a round table discussion and minutes will be kept.
They need to provide us with 3 possible dates for this proposed meeting.
Should this fail, we will institute legal action.

Hope one and all can unite behind me so we can do it the right way.

    Will update you on progress.
    Regards
    Chris Bekker

With reference to my comment above about the UKC, and that they were the 1 st body to officially register the Pit Bull as a breed, we also know that staunch breeders at the time kept their pedigrees for their own purposes. Also for KUSA to say they do not accept the Pit Bull as a pure-bred is a farce and actually show how little they do know. The Pit Bull today is more pure-bred than most other breeds that followed later. Just for the information of some people that might not know, many breeds were used to re-create the Boerboel breed as it was nearly extinct by the late 70's. So fansiers got together, toured the country (essentially farmers) to identify a pool of stock to act as a founfadtion. The foundation was to say the least not uniform but mixed - breeds like the following had inter-bred with old time Boerboels:

    - Bull Mastiff
    - Great Dane
    - St Bernard
    - Boxer
    - Even Rottweiler in some

So selction was the prime vehicle to achieve conformity to a new breed standard.
If you want to see the original Boerboel and what it looked like, go to old Afrikaanse Kinderensiklopedie Vol 8.
That dog there is much smaller and agile than some of the present day slow-footed monsters.

In 1992 again a new start was made to chuck some individual dog out based on a grading scale that I referred to.
I was approached in January 1994 by them to assist with further improvments to be made to the breed.
Kobus Rust & Lucas van der Merwe spear-headed the action for their association and they have come along way.

Now, ...... Is the Boerboel more pure-bred than the Pit Bull? Nope, not in your life !!!
But KUSA accpets the Boerboel now as a pure-bred and not the Pit Bull.
Can KUSA base an argument on this with me? Nope, they are on slippery ground.

Now the punchline ... even if I defeat KUSA's argument, will they oblige to accept the Pit Bull?
Nope. Why not? You think about it .... I cannot tell you, if you do not know already.
Perhaps I should let you into it ..... no, you have to work it out.

Here is some more detail about the UKC:

United Kennel Club … Who We Are . . .

Established in 1898, the United Kennel Club is the largest all-breed performance-dog registry in the world, registering dogs from all 50 states and 25 foreign countries. More than 60 percent of its 13,000 annually licensed events are tests of hunting ability, training and instinct. UKC prides itself on its family-oriented, friendly, educational events. The UKC has supported the "Total Dog" philosophy through its events and programs for over a century. As a departure from registries that place emphasis on a dog’s looks, UKC events are designed for dogs that look and perform equally well.

Our mission is to be the world's best registry of purebred dogs, to offer our customers the most efficient and creative services possible, to use our data to help our customers breed the best dogs in the world and to create a wide spectrum of performance and conformation events in which those dogs can prove their instincts and heritage.

The programs at UKC include Obedience Trials, Agility Trials, Weight Pull Events, Terrier Races, Dock Jumping Events, Total Junior Program, Dog Sports (including Family Obedience), Coonhound Field Trials, Water Races, Nite Hunts and Bench Shows, Hunt Tests for retrieving breeds, Pointing Dog Events, Beagle Events (including Hunts and Bench Shows, and Cur and Feist Squirrel and Coon Events and Bench Shows.

Rounding out the 'Total Dog' package, UKC Conformation Events are among our largest growing events. UKC dog shows are family events designed by and for the breeder-owner-handler. Professional Handlers are not eligible to exhibit dogs for others at UKC Conformation Events. At UKC dog shows, the emphasis is on the DOG, not the SHOW.

Part of our mission is to have events where all dogs can compete. In addition to our purebred dog registry, United Kennel Club offers a Limited Privilege program. The Limited Privilege is open to all dogs that are spayed/neutered. This includes mixed breed dogs, purebred dogs of unknown pedigree, and purebred dogs with disqualifying faults as described in the UKC breed standards. The programs open to Limited Privilege dogs are Obedience Trials, Weight Pulls, Agility Trials, Total Junior Program and Dog Sports (including Family Obedience).

It is our firm belief that the right balance between performance and conformation results in healthier happier dogs for everyone. We are proud that we share that same philosophy with our growing number of dedicated participants.

Essentially, the UKC world of dogs is a working world. That's the way it was developed over a century ago, and that's the way it remains today.

Attention Willie Slabbert / Chris Bekker

This email is being sent to you on behalf of the President (Jeanette Erasmus) & PBFSA members.

    1. I think we can all agree that unfortunately due to the ever present unwanted elements (Dog Fighters to the ignorant) within our ranks that the efforts to unite as one would prove fruitless and counterproductive to say the least.
    2. The Federation however small in numbers has worked hard to gain a reputation of “Clean, transparent & wholesome values which will not be compromised by association with unwanted elements.
    3. The common denominator between us is our Dogs and how we view them, I would categorically deny that under no circumstance at all has it crossed or would it ever cross a PFSA members mind to capitalize on their Dogs, this I believe is where the fundamental difference between us lies, and it will remain a negative connotation between our associations.
    4. The Federation as it stands today does not condone any form of violent dog fighting game testing etc, To associate with such known parties would be contradictory to our moral fiber and ethical beliefs of how the breed has evolved.
    5. It is thus our decision to not confront the municipality in an aggressive nature but rather to try to find an amicable solution, however difficult this may well be for now this is a decision based on the facts you have presented, and the evidence right now suggests that people being singled out by the Municipality is somewhat unusual to the say the least.
    6. This issue is one that the Union will have to tackle on its own, Just out of curiosity, why is it that neighborhoods where Pit Bulls are prevalent, they haven’t been given the same aggressive fines and treatment, Yes I will agree with you that Mrs. Connell is on a mission to eradicate the Pit Bull, but to quote a cliché How do you eat an elephant? “Slowly ………………..and one piece at a time”
    7. To clarify in essence that the decision made by Pit Bull Federation South Africa, to stand on its own, is based on conflicts of interest, of which I’m certain you can draw your own conclusions.
    8. In ending we would like to add that if we were all on the same page and capitalization was not the order of the day Yes joining under one banner would have been the obvious step,” however on the face of it” we are from different worlds and have different values and beliefs and hence is the result of the issues we are sadly having to deal with today.

    Kind Regards

Letter to Chris Bekker (open to the public) - Hello Chris, hope you are ok. Remeber in the old days we had the SA Pit Bull Club, we had meetings at Sturrock Park Jhb etc. That was even before there was a Fed and a Union. The idea and constition of our club was to promote a positive image about the APBT. We had fun shows ( socializing etc ) for the APBT at private venues etc, the idea of uncle Charlie in those days were to not make the APBT open and available to the public, but only to responsable owners. Remember the "old" meetings with Tokkie, Peter Lloyd , Dave de Koker, Bobby etc lol? Where Peter still brought a German Sheppard breeder with to try and convince us that all dogs could walk together lol. Those were the good and honest days. Through my years involved with the APBT, I have have seen them all come and go... There were many more tough dogs come and go in those days.. Believe me lol, I was the chairman of the Western American Pit Bull Terrier club in those days. The old people will know what the WAPBTC was then....Tough dogs and tough people lol.
But then again, I have still got the original letters (1992) when the minister of trade and industry then (Kent Durr), was investigating the banning of the APBT in SA. (You Chris then called upon us to do that, and yes, we made in happen) Will post the letter (reply I got) if forum members want. It's going to happen... unless we stand together and get rid of of all the S*** we have in the dog game nowadays.... They are safer in jail for the benefit of the breed...
My name, and not scared to say it - Junior Veer - Breeder of the Mayday/Buck line (REAL PIT BULLS) ..and proud of it lol. Can some loud mouth forum members calling us curs (you know who you are) do the same? I doubt it lol.

    Regards.
    Junior
(PS - Chris - Like in the old days when the S*** hits the fan, I will be there in support)

    Junior,

Please do publish the letter so everyone can see.

I think, if I still remember correctly, my submission to the Dept of Justice was 31 pages and we won.
I also won over the Sandton and Goodwood municipalities.
I also defended Sofas in the Randburg court and got him off on 14 charges of the 16.
The 2 others he had to pay a fine for because his dogs were unlicenced.
A n advocate was flown up from Bloemfontein to take me down as an "expert witness".
Glad to say that he did not suceed and was countered on all his arguments.
The Sandton head of dog licenses that was called in to testify, I destroyed in short order.
I also defended Pinky Moffat against the SPCA.
Dr. Dries Ferreira also won on his own against the SPCA and they had to pay all legal costs.
The SPCA manager at the time was Rina van der Merwe - not sure if she is still there.

I have learned quite a lot out of all of this.
Tanks, I appreciate all the support I can get.
I do not under estimate out task ahead for one moment.
But I go in with an unswerving attitude.

    Regards
    Chris Bekker

Thanks you that is very helpfull. So were you able to import your dog?

I don't like flying dogs...I heard from a guy in Washington DC that an airline routed a puppy to the wrong airport and by the time they found him, he was dead. Some airlines take no responsibility and others offer insurance so if you say it's going to cost you 1500 dollar then it's going to cost you an extra $30 to cover all the expenses if your dog gets lost or killed.

  7. We've imported before with no problems. Drop me a pm.
