    Phenylbutazone (Bute)

This medication is approved for use in horses not intended for food.

But then it says...the concentration of phenylbutazone was shown to decrease below detection level 96 hours after the last treatment.

My husband comes from a Dutch family, he grew up eating horse. I have not yet, to the best of my knowledge. Who knows, one of their special holiday dishes might have been without me ever knowing LOL.

i have owned horses my entire life from a child and if we had a horse that would come up lame and could not be saved but wasnt in really in any pain we would take him to the horse sale and sell him by the pound they would weigh the horse when u brought it in and pay u w/e the price of meat was goin for at that time i think the meat market for horses has been closed for around 4-5 years now and it has driven the price of your everyday non purebred horse down to where u can buy a good young trail rideable horse at a local sale for under 300.00 now if it is lame u can get it for dirt cheap i think your idea is terrific u seem very resourceful buck more people need to think like u lol

I've never heard of feeding horse, but I like the idea Buck. Since the meats' so lean, do you plan on mixing/grinding it up with other meats or just add the fats? Hopefully the dogs take to it well cause that's alot of good meat. $200 for a horse is a steal. Good luck!

Kibble's ridiculous for what your paying for,

i went to the butchers for the first time for dog food yesterday, to many problems with Kibble I'm finding, skin problems, Rashes, bad teeth, and breath.....

the crap they make into dog food i left, and the rest i took from the butcher, the stuff they make dog food with would appall you if you ever saw it!!!!

rotten rank A*s meat, spoiled past due. and the stuff I got is human grade food, but they can't shave it all off by hand! and don't bother to anyway!

my butcher kills on Wednesdays, and pick up for the rendering plant is a week later, so i get there kill day, grab the tripe, organs and meat, bones, from beef and sheep and goats there,

he has some that die during shipping from stress, i get them too, and butcher myself the meat, for the dogs fresh.

horse is another great meat source, apparently just add chicken or a good fat source, and your set,

I can't justify paying more for dog food, then my own food, price wise, so this is what i came up with, as many others have!!!!..... To help with the costs of a large yard of dogs.

And it allows me to keep what i produce without having to make harsh decisions on which few to keep and with who to part with!

which brings you back to how do you feed alot of dogs well, without going broke, or underfeeding, or having nutritional issues across the yard...

the biggest issue now is finding more freezers cheap!!!
    :D

I'm a try to add the fat, like the other folks recommended, they have at least tried it , and saw what it does,

I'm a take there word and suggestions and put it in to practice!

and see what we get, the hardest thing to do is not say much about it, cause some folks think there pets, me i was raised , "if it works keep it, if it don't cull it, raised on a farm all your life , makes it easier to make a difference between pet/worker and livestock! for me anyway.

don't get me wrong folks i like horses thing there nice to look at, and ride, but if it life has been altered, from it original state of health, movement wise, they get founder, AND RESPIRATORY PROBLEM FROM , NOT DOING ANYTHING,

So as i feel that a horse can be a pet, more work animals then anything!, i don't view it as a dog or person,

I couldn't eat dog, other could! just the way your raised i guess?

Looks like some good eatin. What are ya gonna do with the head, mount it on your wall :p. You think the horns are too big for parting sticks? BTW did you end up getting a bigger freezer?

i think the horns go hollow, and the freezer situation sucks, :D

i got the goat and two garbage bags packed in a thick snow bank in a trp for now, till i get another freezer today or tomorrow, the freezer ad and the meat scrapes ad i put up got removed and my email no good on kijiji anymore lol

Its cold here still, but you still need it in snow to stay fresh...

i saw a big deep freezer for$25 about 1hour away I'm a go get that one i think!;)

for the cost of running 2 freezers, and maybe 2-3 trips a month to the butchers, so you get pick of the meat scrapes. It's pretty much feeding for nothing, it allows me to be less picky with the prices they want for other additions to ther meals,

either it be, Garners CNI, or Bio Sport, or just chicken parts and other stuff that's hard to afford with a feed bill that is in the hundreds of dollars, as it was here.

and you can save for things like Mills and Supplies, and much more that these dogs and your self require. heck i might even be able to afford a fence soon!
