I have shot coyotes but ive never gone out to hunt them. The properties i hunt request that coyotes are shot on sight so i respect their wishes. But ive never called a dog in. It would be a lot of fun but the public land around me holds pigs and im not going to put pressure on them to hunt coyotes. Maybe if i found a better spot.

I have heard of coyotes sending out a bait animal, and tricking pet dogs into following them to a waiting pack of hungry coyotes. Woody do you have any experience of Riot getting in over his head like that? I would be worried about a second or third coyote jumping my hunting dog!

damn thats some smart shit ..... one may attract a dog to a pack on accident but to intentionally do it i dunno

Its done by wolves too. Coyotes are pretty damn smart.

  9. a game bulldog would win hands down they know where to go. crush a paw and wolf cant walk, cant walk cant fight but thats my opinion. plus wolfs rather run even in packs

im sure a good bulldog can fight off maybe 2 or 3 of them.
think about it, kinda goes back to the bulldog Vs a dingo thread. theyre instincts are based on survival so if they can run, they will and not think twice about leaving theyre buddy behind to be mangled by the bulldog.
bulldog is the predator in this scenario hands down, its in the coyotes instincts to survive!
so at the end of the day, when the bulldog scratches at the coyote(s) most will run, one will be caught, leaving only one dog for the bulldog to take down.

am i wrong? if so slap me in the back of the head and put me up on game!

People mostly kill them because they're a nuisence.I guess you can do pretty much anything you want with them, with the fur prices right now you might get 4 or 5 dollars for the hide, but not after a dog chews on it.Most coyote hunters around here just leave them lay or at the most hang up on a fence post,I've seen several rotting away strung up on a fence. They're just a pest.

id do it for the furs and feed the meat to my dogs, i dont think its right just to kill em for the hell of it. atleast make good use of the carcass.
id do a little decorating with the furs.

theyre dogs bro, may be wild and a nuisance but theyre still a canine.
like i said i dont have a problem with hunting, i for damn sure aint a tree hugger.
but i agree with how the indians do things.
if you kill it, use it.
    anything else is poaching.

dont forget WE MOVED IN on THEYRE HABITAT.
again not saying we cant hunt them (as theyre overpopulated here)
but if we do, just use them. like i said id start my dogs on a raw diet!! and decorate the house in furs!
    use the bones for breaksticks
    ya know yada yada lol

  16. Thats a Dogo Argentino, and the CAT was declawed and starving, do you know how fast a cat that size would tear open a dog if it had its claws. FAST

Sounds good in theory but I don't know how many fat coyotes there are to feed dogs on. Many are very thin and full of parasites. As for the furs, a lot of it will be mangled by the dogs, some can be used for lures but after a few coyotes you'll have more fur than you know what to do with.

They're pests. Put em down and leave em out for other animals to snack on.

we sit in a blind and call em in they may come a couple at a time occasionally, but usually one gets close enough, out goes the dog, and we get the ones farther out with rifles. at 35 lbs, they are no match. the funniest thing is to watch em realize theres a dog comin at em at a full head of steam. they usually freeze, and by the time they realize theyd better get running, hes nearly on em. hell, ive seen coyotes walk clear up and touch the digital call with their nose. they cant resist an easy meal, and the sound of an injured rabbit brings em runnin.
