The thing with garlic is that it thins the blood. This can cause a problem with aftercare for a kennel accident.

I spray my yard with Dawn dishwashing soap diluted with some water in a hose sprayer, wash my dogs with Natures Specialties Super Remedy-has cedar oils in it (great stuff for dogs, puppies and horses) Dilutes 8:1, 3 days later I use K-9 Advantix II (good for dogs and puppies) repels & kills fleas, ticks, flies, mosquitos, etc. Also use Braggs red cider vinegar in their drinking water( couple of squirts ) and a very diluted water and vinegar solution over their food. You can also use a 50/50 water & red cider vinegar in a spray bottle and spray them head to toe before taking your dog out and bringing dog back from an outing( like a pig hunt) . I don't have any fleas or ticks and don't have to spray my dogs ears for fly bites.
I have also heard about AVON skin so soft for dogs also, works good on us humans=)
I live in Cali so the flea ,tick and mosquito problem isn't as severe as some of you southerners.

This works well too, I've done it myself a few years back. Not only will it keep the pests away but your dogs coat will glow.
    Shine bright like a diamond....lol

Bayer Tree and Shrub. Not Bayer Complete, not Bayer Advanced. BAYER TREE AND SHRUB! Get it at Lowe's about 20 bucks. Eyeball about one tbsp. rub in from head to tail along back. Your welcome.

It irritates our kennel partners hands, but don't irritate mine at all. It has not irritated any of our dogs yet and I've been using this stuff for years.
Nothing works perfectly for fleas! We've tried nearly everything! Bayer Tree And Shrub has been the most effective to date. Although we haven't tried Termidor yet, I know someone who has and they still got a major flea problem.
I'll notice a couple of juvenile files around 2-3 weeks after the first application, I'll then use a pressure sprayer and spray the whole dogs body with a weak solution of the Tree And Shrub.
It also helps if you switch things up from time to time, with another flea spray like an Adam's, or better yet mix your own solution and get a concentrated pyrethrin, mix it with a whole bottle of mineral oil and water in a 1 gallon pressure sprayer, soak the dog down.

The easiest way to control fleas is stay ahead of the problem.Spray your yard at least twice a year clean kennels and bedding..When u realize you have a problem its too late you more than likely have a infestation..So think ahead and stay ahead.

Treatin a infestation takes different measures..You cant just spray one time and think the problem is solved.2 weeks the eggs will hatch and your right back in square one .So you spray once and then again in 2 weeks and I would prob wait 2 weeks and do it again..This is for a infestation.

I had a flea infestation recently due to nature and weather. Permethrin can irritate some dogs skin and they will break out. After trying all sorts of things and even hiring a professional company (who couldn't kill them with 3 different trips; I got a full refund) finally a buddy of mine shared this with me.First pick up all water and food bowls, take out bedding from houses and open them up. Then bath the dogs. After that apply Bayer. Advanced or Bayer Tree and Shrub (not the feed) in between the dogs shoulders. 5 months old and up. Make sure the first ingredient is Imidacloprid (same active ingredient in K9 Advantix) dose 1/4 cc per lb(the strength will be .72% or 1.47% compared to 9.1% in Advantix. Remove dogs from the yard.I used a 32 oz water hose attachment and filled it up with Shock chlorine the kind sold at aswimming pool supply company. To the Shock I added 2 cap fulls of Bayer Advanced complete insect killer ( only because I couldn't find Bayer Tree and Shrub).. Then I saturated the yard (spraying 3 ft up any wooden fences if you have neighbors). Spray under and inside doghouses.Repeat the process until entire yard is sprayed. Let dry 2 to 3 hours or until dry. Then I mixed 1 part diatamaceous earth and 1 part 20 mule team borax and covered every chain spot. After that I sprayed each chain spot down with regular water. Next I immediately went back and spread a 40 or 50 lb bag of salt per chain spot and covered up the borax/ diatamaceous mix. I used red cedar chips in all the houses sprinkled with Sevin Dust 5% on the cedar chips. The next day if it doesn't rain go back and spray chainspots down with waterIf you have a flea infestation and follow this the fleas will die, the larvae will die and the eggs will die. Make sure to wear goggles and a dust mask and clothes you dont mind getting bleached.

ok ill share my top secrete and it truly works...the bayer like texas is talking about is the cheapest way..But for those of you scared to put it on your dogs your local walmart carries Petarmor...iTs a throw off to frontline. And frontline does not work...i repeat that shit is junk..Petarmor does work and its cheaper 23 bucks for 3 applications..why does it work and not frontline? I have no fuckin clue.I live in a place where the fleas are as tough as the dogs..And this petarmor works great...

There were so many pages to this thread, and my tired eyes aren't wanting to comb through them lol, but, my dog is allergic to the chemicals in the fleas saliva. This has been recent due to a rise in flea population in my area. My question is, how could I prevent BITES? It seems like it only takes a couple bites. Her neck under her collar, and her hind quarters catch most of it. She has a cable runner, which she loves!! I've laid 7 dust and anything you can think of in her runner area and dog house. An put flea meds on also. Here is a picture after her bath, the irritates area is blushed.
