black and tans

Discussion in 'Photography, Artwork & Videos' started by labulldoger, Dec 29, 2009.

  1. TY about the compliments to my girl!

The tan points are one of the modifiers that can effect the sable gene. While sable often fades out as a dog ages not all do so some sable dogs will show the 'points' of the tanpoint pattern (just depends on the modifiers present etc)

This type of sabling is really common in the AmBullies...

black and tan is a pattern not a colour, hence red dogs with the tan marking points like eyebrows, chest etc are still black and tans.

  5. One of our first dogs was a black and tan Colby bitch bred out of Komosinsky's yard back in 1976. She is pictured here with our Tudor/Corvino male.
Sorry about the bad pic but it's really old.

a tri colour is still a black and tan, its the patterning not the colour that makes a black and tan

Yes, but most bulldog people refer to them as black and tans due to the fact that most dogs have white on them some where. "Tri-color" seems to be more of a UKC and Bully dog term.

it is my understanding that when the standards were set, they didn't understand the recessive gene causing the black and tan point and so thought that a black and tan was a mutt. if this is true it could explain the black and tan being considered undesirable (though certainly not by me :)).

Yes that's what I mean wonder how many dogs really carry this trait just don't express it where it is seen as clearly.
