Mayfield's (Tudor's) ni*ger cur or game

I have read vastly different opinions of this dog. Some say he was a cur; which believed until I found a interview with Burton saying he was game. It is hard to believe a cur could have produced that many gamedogs that inturn produced more game dogs. Does anyone know the skinny.

 

a producer is a producer cur or not as for the dog in question...who knows unless you knew the dog its self.

yes he was a cur & each person who owned the dog proved it. he was bred out the ass so they gave him a pass on it. back then you could have a yard with 50-100+ dogs. so taking a chance on a well bred cur was no big deal. nigger was sold 4 or 5 times to good dogmen & they all knew he was cur dog bur every one of them took a chance on breeding him.

 

Thanks for clearing that up. Internet sources are so unreliable. It was some European mag. they quoted from. Glad there is someone to keep the story straight.

 

From what I was told the sucker could break bones toothless, Cur, its common saying that he was, but he could bite like the devil himself... Or so I was told... Wasn't Pit Gen from a half bro/sis breeding that were off Nigger?

 

Some curs produce nothing but game dogs and vice versa. As mentioned above, back in those day things were much different!

 

Now it makes sense a hardbiting cur given a pass. It is amazing that a litter like the alligator, soko & renee litter came from a cur bred to a cold dog. The more I know, the less I know about these dogs. Like a breeder told me once I guess the stars and moon just got to line up right.

 

For the most part it's all a crapshoot!

 

seriously, lets think logically, why would top dogmen like mayfield,gilman,burton etc want to base their yards on a cur ?

 

peddlers tell stories to sell dogs, others tell stories to throw people off lol..

 

Im gonnna find out the real answer when I get my Book of Game dogs this coming xmas

I don't know about the whole entire Pit gen thing but fron your first they said alot and I always thought the dog maybe be the devil in a dog form from the gory details that I heard Nigger did to other dogs but on the other side of the Fence they always said he wans't even game like actually he wouldn't even bug at a dog even though he produced some very game dogs but he wouldn't bug up at one i believe that he is and sure enough was a cur but to be honest with you which side of the fence will you believe?

 

There are 2 different stories going around about that dog. One story is the one that was told by Earl Tudor and Danny Burton and they say that he was the gamest dog to wear a collar. They used him to test Tiger Dan who was his son (Nigger x Mert) and even without any teeth the dog showed to be a good one. Nigger not only sired Alligator and was grandsire to Pit General he also sired such dogs as Sampson who lost to Butcherboy, Ch Crazy, Ch Killer, Ch 400, Ch Gomer, Pusher and Satan who were all well known proven dogs.

It was after Tudor's falling out with Don Maloney over the Tombstone dog that Maloney started putting out rumors along with Randy Fox backing them up about Nigger being a cur, quitting to some badger or something, who knows that story changes everytime Randy tells it.

After Maloney started to spread that rumor, Tudor asked Mayfield to match into Don Maloney using a son off of the Nigger dog and that was what happened at the Red River show that Bullyson matched in. Don Maloney was using a heavy Tudor bred dog by the name of Bullet and Don Mayfield used the Gomer dog. Both dogs showed to be deep game and good dogs with Don Maloney's dog Bullet showing to be a dead game dog in that match.

I don't think that Nigger was bred very much at all, he only shows 31 offspring and I believe he was bred to only 9 or 10 bitches in his life. As far as a match dog he was no good for that since he had lost most of his teeth before he was 2 years old, but both Burton and Tudor felt he would have made a good match dog.

So you will have to inform yourself of both sides of the story and decide which side you want to believe. But as you do that just keep in mind that the person who most puts down that dog is also one of the ones who owned many offspring from him and has himself said they were some of the greatest dogs he owned (until he got famous for the Alvin dog). It just seems very odd that someone would put down a dog that gave him a very fair number of champion gamedogs I think.

One last point to make is that one side of the story (Burton's) comes from a person who has absolutely nothing to sell to anyone,,, and the other side (Fox) comes from someone who is trying to sell you a dog.

 

"sunbeam" you don't base a yard on a dog. you base it on what made the dog. if you breed on individual dogs alone your goings to be SOL. look at what the family avg behind nigger is that's reason enough to take a chance on a breeding...................PS. i wouldn't listen to what fox has to say about any dogs.

 

back then those folks were gonna look at those dogs tough and cull whats not wanted unlike today where people breed to sell pups they kept them and tried them so whatever offspring you did hear about was bound to be good
cause it made the cut its all about culling, testing and culling somemore

 

Randy Fox has a history of Ni--er/Black Shine. and some of the men who owned him.
Couple that with the knowing men who did NOT use the blood and the mental state of the last owner,you can see why mostly beginners bought the line.
All Bloodlines throw good dogs,some throw more than others.

 

Here is the real question. Would you breed to him or raise a pup off him with limited space? That is if we could go back.

 

I didn't know that eh littarly based hisw hole yard on nigger now that is a bit much Man oh man I can't wait when i get my Book of Game dogs book find out all these tories about these dogs
