Hey, say your pitbull gets in a accidental fight with another dog, you go to break up the fight, as you reach for your dog, it does not recognize you and bites you, he releases the bit in less than a second as it recognizes you. I know many people would cull for less, but this has happend to me in the PAST, and i did not cull for the reason, the dog was in the heat of the moment and did not realize it was me when i went for him, this dog wouldnt show his upper lip to me if there was a Tbone steak infront of him and i wanted to take it from him.

I would not cull. That is a re-direct, not a purposeful bite. There is a BIG difference (IMO) between the two!

I wouldn't cull him for that.As long as he actually thought you were the dog and released when he noticed it,then it's just an accident.

I would not cull this dog, it was an accidental bite that once he realize what he had a hold of he released (lucky for you, I've had this done to me twice and one of them included a good shaking). I don't feel this is HA but more like a mistaken redirection that once the dog realized it had what it wasn't suppose to have it let go. Now if it bit you and continued it's attack towards you then yes, a dirt nap would be the next step.

The re-direct bite is a reason why i dont use any handheld tug toys. it happens enough, i dont want the dog to associate jerkin hand movements with a bite reflex.

I wouldn't cull, the dog recognized in short time that it was you and he released the bit immediately...
I would cull if the dog recognize that he bites me and don't let loose.

Thanks for everyone reply, I sort of knew what the opinion of apbt owners was going to be, was just curios i guess lol. You can never say im going to have an accidental dog fight again, cause when you least expect it , chit happens, this was not the only time this dog has bit me on accident, but again, the only reason he ever did bite me, was when he was in a scrap with another dog, now i sort of have to watch out when he scraps, because im not goning to risk it. A lot of people mentioned that a right cause for a cull would be if the dog kept on fighing with you even after it knew it was you , its owner, if that chit happend to me i would cull my dog right there and then with my hands lol.......... Peace.

my hand is quicker than a dogs mouth,(AS ARE MOST) so in the heat with everything goin on a static hand is the one that gets bit. shit happens. got the holes to prove it.

I would cull. I don't mean to go against the grain, but If it is a game bred dog, I would cull. I don't believe a game Bred dog should panic enough to bite franticly an accidently bite a person. I don't believe that it's natural for them to do this.

I think there is a HUGE difference between redirected bite and an ooops bite. A dog that actually turned and WENT for me.... I would cull, a dog that wasn't paying attention, and my hand was in the wrong place at the wrong time.... no, I wouldn't. Big difference IMO. My dogs are also house dogs though and I walk them with my kids, so I wouldn't want them redirecting on my kids because they got worked up over seeing a dog, but that's just me. ;)

i had an accident in june with 2 grown male dogs. they were getting it on good and my hand got caught between them. one of them realized it was me. the other one didnt. i lost the end of my index finger. a hanger went through the top of my hand near the wrist, and the web between 2 of my fingers was ripped open to the bone. didnt even think about cullin either one of them. my dogs are high octane animals. leave an inch and it will go a mile. it was my mistake and i paid for it. still have 2 damn good bulldogs.
