NORMAN HOOTEN'S "CH"BUTCHER BOY" NORMAN HOOTEN'S "CH"BUTCHER BOY" Butcher Boy was an outstanding match dog that was owned by Norman H. Hooten in the late 1960's. He will be remembered for his match that was titled the "Day of the Upsets".

Butcher Boy's first match was in Oklahoma in June, 1969, when he was matched into the great 2x winner, Kennedy's Booger Red. Butcher Boy killed Booger Red in the pit in :36 minutes. It was in Butcher Boy's 2nd match in 1969 in Mississippi against Edward's Luke, a 2x winner, that Butcher Boy scratched into Luke so hard that he actually knocked Luke's handler completely out of the pit at least 5 times. Butcher Boy killed Luke in the pit in :32 minutes making Butcher Boy a 2x winner. The "Day of the Upsets" was in 1972 and that was the day Butcher Boy won his championship match over Corn's Smokey, a son of Bullyson.

He was the only favorite to win his match, which went :15 minutes as Smokey just could not take what Butcher Boy had for him and quit cold. His true test came in 1973 at six years of age when he was brought out of retirement, after being treated for heartworms twice, to go into the 2x winner, Stinson & Perry's Sampson. Sampson, a Maurice Carver bred dog, had beat a dog of Carver's at 56 lbs. and was in his prime at 30 months of age. Because of Butcher Boy's age and the fact that it was known that he had been treated for heartworms twice, he was a 3 to 1 underdog going in. But, he beat Sampson by biting him down in 1:45 minutes in a classic match.

Both, Sampson and Butcher Boy died after this great match. Butcher Boy was awarded Best in Show for his dead game, hard biting efforts. He was truly, a once in a lifetime dog

    HOOTEN vs.CORN
    Black VS Butcher Boy
    MALES AT 57 LBS.

    CAJUN RULES

    F B REFEREE

Corn with a big black dog that is said to be off of "Bully Son". A very good looking black with white markings. Hooten with his "Butcher Boy" dog, a winner of two matches, sire by Marshell’s "Joe" and out of Womack’s "Liz". "Butcher Boy" is the hardest scratching dog I have ever seen as I saw him knock one man out of the pit about five times scratching into him. Both of these dogs are big, neither dog pull down fine and with this heat and as fast as these dogs fought, it is a wonder they fought 5 minuts., I don’t mean these dogs were not in good shape, as they both proved they were, they were just great big dogs and I am used to a 45 lb. dog being a big dog to me.

Dogs meet in the center like two "Mac Trucks", one throwing one then the other. At 10 mins. dogs have been fighting hard and fast like little dogs, fight mw around the head, with "Butcher Boy" pushing for chest and shoulders. At 11 mins., a turn called on "Butcher Boy" and a pick-up. He makes one of his fast hard scratches putting the black down, but the black comes up with a head hold and opens an artery and "Butcher Boy" is bleeding bad. A pick-up and the black hesitates then makes a slow scratch. Another pickup and "Butcher Boy" makes a fast scratch.

At 18 mins., it’s the Black to scratch and he takes the count, making Hooten and "Butcher Boy" the winner. This was two good big hard biting dogs and was a fast exciting fight. This makes "Butcher Boy" a three time winner and he is now entitled for req. of Championship.

Who is "Perry"? Wasn't King Glover the other owner of Sampson?

    Edit:

Nevermind, I was just reading through an article I have and Pat Perry was the handler in the match, but I don't believe had any ownership of BB.

wE LOVE THAT bUTCHER BOY! It is a very good blood to use....if you know how. Lots of folx badmouth it from experience with Banjo in particular, but I don't typically go for the Go Go Gurl bred dogs anywho. Nah....there's a little more ability in the McCool's AppleJack..and other strains. My bitch Angel is a 2x confirmation show winner. She stole the judges heart in her last show landing a blue ribbon Best In Show. Body of a model. She will be bred back to my RedBoy dog this fall:http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/modules.php?name=Public&file=printPedigree&dog_id=303305 Should be very nice, as she already has the Deacon blood, along with Patric/Maloney/TurtleBuster. Also, we own Jessie James, and have several straws from McCool's Goldberg, a dog we purchased from A.W. as a 6 week old pup. Ch Texas, and a direct son of Shooter x Bell Star are also available for Angel's breeding needs. So first, we put some more Redboy in there, and then, we go back Carver....pure w/no Bolio/Tombstone. Also, congrats P @ LDK in the Phillipines with your guy samuel. He really is special.http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/modules.php?name=Public&file=printPedigree&dog_id=225593

I really like the deacon/roxy breeding. Maybe the best breeding ever done with deacon. I didnt realize she was ever bred to bingo, but I bet they were some good ones too.
