Which spring pole set up?

Hey guys I need some help from you. I am about to order a spring pole set up and I was wondering if anyone had ever ordered either one of these two that I came across?

    http://www.dbdpetsuppliers.com/spring-pole.html

This one says the height is adustable but I do not see anything in the pic where it shows height adjustments. However, I like the fact that it comes with the cow hide already and it is pretty much ready to be used.

I belive from what I read on the site this needs another attachment and it seems to be only rope at the end.

What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for the help:)

Why don't you just make one, it will be cheaper and work just as well as the 2 you posted. Plus you can make it to whatever specs. you need. You can get all the supplies you need from either a Tractor Supply Store or a Hardware Store ( the Hardware Store will probaly be a little bit more $$ than the Tractor Supply Store )

That is something to consider, the only thought is what can I attach at the end that will drive my dog mad and will not hurt his teeth. I am not planning on hanging him 10 feet in the air like I have seen. I just want it high enough for him to have to support this weight on his back legs.

A hide will do just the job your looking for - (i.e cow, buffalo, deer, whatever you can get your hands on) we use Buffalo hides here because there is a Buffalo farm within 10 miles of me that sells them pretty cheap but I think someone on here (could be boogieman but don't quote me on it) sells hides

Marty is it safe to use only the rope at the end? it will not hurt their teeth?

If your not wanting the dog to hang from it then you shouldn't have much issue with the teeth. I like to have the dog have to get on the back legs to get it but can bring it down far enough to get all 4 feet on the ground and really work it.

It would be nice to have the option to switch from what I mentioned to what you are describing as well.

Definitely make your own one. It's a lot cheaper and you can choose the components based on YOUR dog. This is how my own is set up:

This is a two inch double ply nylon collar on top. I like using collars to attach it to my springpole frame because that way you can easily take it down or take it with you when you go out for a hike and attach it to a tree or what have you. Next I attached a heavy duty snap carabiner to the collar and the garage door spring.

This is the other end of the spring. It features a heavy duty quick link that I sprayed with lock tight so it doesn't come undone under heavy use. Attached to the quick link is a safety or panic snap. I explain that one later.

This is my biting surface but it doesn't have to be a rope toy. You can use hides, natural leather or a tire. Whatever floats your boat. As you can see I have a blue nylon rope with a few loops attached to it. That way I can adjust the height of the springpole without having to fool around with any of the hardware or by trying to hang it on a higher mount.

And this is the whole setup with bite surface attached. As you can see now the panic snap is closed and attached to the rope. The panic snap is in my opinion an awesome tool to have on a professional springpole setup because if you have a very hard biting balls out kind of dog it might fang itself when biting the toy or get otherwise hooked on the bitesurface. Instead of having to untangle your dog mid air you can just push on the panic snap and the whole thing will come apart, reducing possible injury to your animal.

If you don't have a garage door spring readily available you can go with a wheel barrow tire. It is a lot less noisey and it is a bit more flexible.

    Hope this helps.

thanks for the feedback and the pictures guys, I will be making my way over to the hardware store this weekend hopefully I can get it done with this horrible weather. The flirtpole is getting a little bit old and dangerous because pluto is like a tractor trying to get to it and he ran through me once when I was not paying attention lol I def will have both tools to supplement his training though.:)

I like this set up especially the panic snap idea, I think I will try this one myself;)

AGK, the panic snap is the only way to go for me but unfortunately not too many folks use them. I had one of my own dogs fang himself on the springpole once and he would have torn the crap out of his lip if it wouldn't have been for the snap. They are dirtcheap for a quality one but spending that little will save you a great deal of headache and possibly vet bills in the long run.

I have plenty of them just laying around here and I don't trust them as far as holding a dog to a chain or leash but I could really see the benifit of using on on the springpole..

Definitely. I wouldn't use them on a leash or chain setup either but since the spring takes most of the shock and pull in a springpole setup these work wonderfully.
These are also great for introducing a young dog to the springpole because you can let them "win" the bitesurface by releasing the snap.

  16. If you want something good for the spring pole and flirt pole I can fix you up with some beef hides.

They are approx 6 x 16 inches and I sell them in lots of 5 pieces. They are $35 and that is including the shipping costs. I send them USPS Priority Mail so delivery time is usually 2-3 days. ;)

Holler if anybody needs some. I have just got a new hide cut up a couple weeks ago.

How high was the spring pole? Were the dogs hind legs able to touch?
