Modern days and humanizing of animals

I am tired of people these days not accepting animal instincts, thinking that a dog should behave like a human and have the rationalization of a person! The two things that have been driving me nuts are a bigger dog (of any breed, but mostly targeted at our breed) killing cats, smaller dogs, whatever other small animals. And people are like "omg that dog killed a cat!" Was this a rare occurrence back 30 years ago? I mean COME ONE PEOPLE. They are predatory animals with predatory instincts. I know this is a total terrier trait too and look at how many terrier breeds there are. Then you got people suing people over this because of dog bite chasing lawyers. And the bigger dog is being put down? For what? Predatory instinct. Which small breeds totally have too, I have heard of Jack Russels killing cats, and other small terriers.

The complete lack of the damn idea that animals are once again animals and they don't speak english! They communicate using body language. They can learn our body language and a pretty wide range of words. But once again they can't talk. For example... someone on another forum downing the breed said his friend got bitten in the face by a pit bull who was wagging it's tail prior to the bite and she "bent down, obviously over the dogs head" And the dog bit out of either dominance because this girl is not in the dogs pack... or the fact dogs don't like strangers coming at their face like that. Would you want a stranger to come up and start putting their hands in your face? I posted links on dog body language and that a wagging tail doesn't always mean a dog is happy. And about the over the head sweep thing. I know Helena was acting normal one night and happy towards a guy but he bent down and went over her head and she reacted in fear trying to hide behind my boyf and I and barking and growling and avoiding him at all means possible. And since that happened she doesn't always trust men that come over that she doesn't know. So my trainer said crate her and than bring her out and let her go to them.

Bottom line.. dogs as much as we love them are not humans and do not speak our language. It is up to us to learn theirs as well. Dogs will be dogs.

I'm tellin ya'. I know someone who is against "Pit Bulls" because two of them killed his cat. Oh and his cat went into their backyard!! I a random cat came in my back yard, my dogs would have a go at it too! And they are good with cats!! :eek:

 

My sister lives in a small town... let her pit bull roam the neighborhood, she killed a couple cats, no one ever did anything about it. But my sisters pit bull did get picked up and put down at the pound. Likely story... of course. She.... can barely handle the responsibility of her kids.. going on 4 now.

 

Sad stuff. Dunno what the world has come to or where it is going to go from here

If I was a dog then Yeah I SHOULD like that kinda thing....

Dogs are dogs but they shouldn't bite people and should be UNDER CONTROL.... Period...

 

Yeah, its like none of these people ever watched a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Almost all of those involved a cat trying to eat a bird and a dog trying to eat the cat.

Or someone trying (unsuccessfully) to eat/kill a rabbit. But you get the idea.

 

I think we all are guilty of it to some degree when we talk about our dogs. But its a different story when you start to actually BELIEVE that they think the same way that humans do.

 

wow hells bells, taking a conservative stance on something? never heard of a liberal standing up for personal responsibility. maybe we aren't so different after all.

 

I've heard some people bash Cesar Millan earlier in a thread but he talks about how to approach a dog and not to just run up and pet it cuz it looks cute, or the tail wag, different wag means different things! And also that not all barking dogs are gonna kill you, different barks mean different things, he's been educating people who otherwise hate or don't understand dogs and Most of all has been giving good publicity for the pitbull, his dog Daddy is almost recognized as rin tin tin or lassy, except that he saw all the bad publicity and wanted to change that, He's always giving credit to the pit for not being a monster as the media portrays it, And he's reached thousands of people who otherwise would be giving you the evil eye while you walked you dog! People that wouldn't have had the positive insight otherwise! Same reason you can't hate Marty thier all stand up people for in a way fighting BSL, even if you don't agree 100% you can't hate em

Well I was having some problems with Helena not accepting strange men. And my trainer told me, and gave me an example that dogs would rather approach you and sniff you when they are ready. And she gave me an example in human terms... she walked up to another person in the class and grabbed his shoulder and said HEY HOW YA DOING? Then she asked me, would you like if someone you didn't know did that to you? Giving me the idea that dogs are the same way. And going over a dogs head when it doesn't know you is not a good idea. And thats what the guy did to Helena, he bent down and went over her head and she got alarmed and started barking and growling and avoiding the guy at all costs. He really spooked her. So my trainer said tell people to ignore her and let her come to them.

 

I live and I learn... but I used to be hard core liberal, but now I see a side of both issues. And to me, what I've posted is pure common sense... if you know about dog body language which I've been researching a lot lately and learning my own dog and what makes her tick.

My liberal stances are more along the lines of equality for all, no matter your race, sexual orientation, or disability. Everyone should have the same rights as everyone else. But I see this country not dealing with the issues at hand that they should be dealing with and sweeping someones back porch when we need to sweep our own. If to people of the same gender are in love than it's not hurting me any. So I don't care what they do in their own house. It's none of my business. But thats just the way I feel. Now when it comes to illegal immigrants coming and taking our resources to help people and American's getting denied those rights while they give an illegal immigrant who needs a damn translator help over helping a born and bred American.. I start having problems. Come to my country, learn our language!

There's a difference between equal rights and special rights....

And in my experiences 9/10 of the people that I have met preaching tolerance are THE MOST intolerant of people of all....

Theres a difference than just being something and then being something and then try to force feed it to me telling me I HAVE TO accept that something...

I won't get on my poolpit about the rest of it....
