Take your time get to know people get to know the dogs.Dont be in a rush it will payoff in the long run.Im kinda weiry of people that will sell pups to the gen public anyone can come up with a grand. It depends what you want out of a dog you can spen ten grand on a pup and it can still turn out to be a dud.If you can save up and buy a older bitch that is the truth and find the best stud you can then go from there.

I think I'd pay more than $1000.00 for the EXACT pup I wanted but only if it came from the source I wanted also . . .

But, if you do right by the dogs I don't think you should have to. If I had the room I'd have 4 free dogs right now from VERY good sources. . .

But, sometimes circumstance screws you. Cross your fingers for me the offers still stand when the time comes.

The most expensive dog I've had was 'free'. Nothing for the dog followed by $1500 in vet bills.

CRYSTAL: good point. I have had dogs offered to me before. Not that I am 'super trainer' or anything like that, I think the people just liked my style and how I treated the dogs and how they pulled. Its a compliment.

To answer the question, i'd say 800 bucks or so. I don't plan on buying for a while, so who knows what the going price will be when I decide to purchase.

What about a started 2 year old hog hunting dog, that has already shown he will be a hunter??? What is a dog like worth to from solid breeding??

If you add up JUST the cost of rasing one up TO BE A HUNTING DOG, from say 8 weeks to 2 or 2 1/2 years old. Then NOT KNOWING if it'll make a hunting dog..

IF I HAD THE MONEY... I'd spend $10,000 to shoot 25,000 maybe more on a 2 year old that had a sure fire guarantee behind him from someone honest about the dogs and from someone I truly trusted...

    JMHO

But for a pup it'd be down like 500 to 800 maybe 1500 from what I really really wanted.

No way I sold one of the best weightpull dogs around who is a UKC CH as well for a cup of coffee, a stick of gum and $1. Does that make me a backyard breeder?

If I had $1000 i don't think I would spend that much on a pup or charge that much for a pup. it's a gamble. What if you get this $1000 pup and he turns out to be the worst dog you have ever met? It's a gamble and a G is too much to loose. I would pay nomore then $750.....

It's always a gamble I think. Hell, my best dog I bought was $200.00. I really think that you are probably better to go with an adult dog but if you know the parents really well and trust the breeders honesty and judgment then you will probably be okay. Also, for $1000 some breeders will give you a guarantee and replace the dog if it doesn't work out.

I think that your best bet to get a really good dog is to breed your own. Then you can control the outcome- but that will cost you more than $1000 and takes know how, education and effort.

that's what it's all about. i agree. you raise good dogs from your breedings or by a proven dog. buying pups to get the winner is like the lottery. you just diminish the odds with better proven parents. but it's nothing like making all eight pups and figuring out who makes the cut.

im looking at american breeders websites and the first one i like is charging 1500 a pup!! it had better be cooking my dinners for that price..especially since i have to fly the pup over here,i think id go as high as 1000 not including shipping

I paid $1000 and drove a 34 hour round trip with no sleep for her http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/public/printPedigree.php?dog_id=169404

Would a do it again ? Probably not.
Was it worth it ? Not sure yet.
Would I ever think about getting rid of her ? Nope, money couldn't buy her and I am being serious too.

Sometimes your passions drive you into doing things that.......under any other normal circumstance....... you wouldn't do. Bulldogs do this to me I must confess and I am still not sure if it's healthy or not. I m sure many of you can relate.
