Feed store shots are fine. People around here have been using them without problems for years. Go buy a bunch of over priced meds and then pay shipping for them on top of that. Not saying that Joe Shmoe with the run down delapidated feed shack has good stuff, but a reputable feed store will do ya just fine. I don't know where in Georgia you are at, but ,everyone loves my dogs. I have absolutely no problems going to any vet, period. Matter of fact, my vet has like 10 chihuahuas at his house and any one of my dogs act better than his any day. We take all of our dogs through obedience classes so they know how to act in public places.
I think the lead story on this board today about the North Texas Club that held a show and invited their local representatives or whatever was great public relations for our breed. I don't hide my dogs at all. Three of them are therapy pets and we go to the army hospital once a month. Plus nursing homes too. We thoroughly love it when people pet our dogs and comment on how nice and pretty they are and then ask what kind they are. They are suprised and then we can tell them what wonderful dogs pitbulls are. That it isn't bad dogs but irresponsible owners.

Oh yeah, both posts are right about the shots. But you should still take your puppy to the vet for a exam. Your can always give your own shots later except of course for the rabies vaccine. You can buy those at the feed store but they have to be given by a licensced vet to be valid. If your dog bites someone and they don't have the right paperwork, they can make you quarrantine your dog to check for rabies.

If you care about your dogs well being, feed store shots are not fine.

A lot of folks say feed store shots aren't any good; but many, many people have used feed store shots for many, many years with no ill results. As one poster said, you just have to make sure you deal w/ a good feed store. For example, one of our feed stores here sells the same exact shots the vets use. (I know, I compared labels)

Another scare tactic the vet offices use is that you can't be sure if the shot is any good b/c they have to be kept cool. But manufacturers have told me if a shot has gotten too warm (& thus is not any good) the shot will let you know by being discolored when you mix it.

The Feed Store, where I get my vaccines, is a very reputable place to get them. They are shipped cold, they are kept in a refrigerator, and they tell you too keep them cold, when you buy them. They have been in business a long time, kind of a "Mom and Pop" shop, and people all over this area trust them for their livestock and pet needs.

Are you a vet?? Because if you don't know this already the vet's recieve their shots the same way that the feed stores do.. The company packs them with cold packs and ships them out.. All of them are shipped the same, a vet gets no special package. So if your feed store puts them directly in the fridge then they are doing the SAME thing the vet clinic is doing.. Only you are saving money by doing it yourself.
So I was just wondering who are you to say that we can not trust the average Joe running the feed store as aposed to the average Joe working in the vet clinic?

the only shot you "cant" administer yourself is rabies.

well, you physically can give the shot- but YOUR records are not accepted by the state ( at least all the states I know)

take the pup in for its first shots and get it an exam- its not very exspensive, esp if you are not DVM savvy.

What part of georgia do you live in. I've never gone to any vet that wouldnt deal with pitbulls. If you just want to go to the feed store do that. I have a question are you in the Atlanta area?

I lived in Cumming,Ga. for about 4 years and used the Pilgrim Mill Vet Clinic on exit 16 of hyw 400. They are easily one of the best vets I have ever been to. I took them in for all their shots as well as had two great ear croppings done there and would highly recommend them. As far as the feed store shots go, I get my 7-in-1 regularly from TSC and have never had a problem.

No im not a vet, nor do I get shots from the vet...Neither you or I can say if the shots were put in the fridge on time at the vets or at the feed store...but I can assure you that mine are when they are delivered...not to mention at a cheaper cost than if I was to buy from the feed store on top of that... Im surprised that alot of people on here that are considered experienced doggers havent said anything on this yet...

Is that just from bad experiences in the past? I just don't see how the assurance in that website is guaranteed more than a trusted feed store.

Either place that you get your shots from probably rely on good ol UPS. Or a similiar service that does shipping. Could the vaccines get in the wrong place and get to be room temperature and go bad? Sure they could. Anything is possible when there is room for human error.
But I would rather give my vet the business, he gives me excellent service and prices, and have him look out for me later on if I need emergency service than to save a couple of bucks in the short term.
My vet is one of my best friends with me having so many dogs. We look out for each other.
