Has anyone tried mixing 2 brands of dogfood?

like for example canidae + eukanuba or canidae + proplan. this is to compensate for canidae's lack of protein specially if youre feeding pups.

do you think it's a good idea?

    thanks!

I did Canidae All Stages and TW's Dakota Bison formula with my last batch of food and it didn't work out for me at all. As much as it pains my wallet, the dogs just did a lot better on all TW.

nah, i've not, other than switching from one brand to another= a gradual switch (over the course of 4-7 days) to help minimize potential gastro/stomach upset.

pipbull, unfortunately, TW is not available here, the only premium dogfood that I can afford is euka, canidae and proplan, other dogfoods like royal canin and akana is too pricey for me. thanks for the comment.

tjpitbull, so does it also work well with their overall physique? as much as they like it? haha thanks.

Thanks, I was orignally planning to feed my pups canidae but I've seen other pups doin great on proplan so I thought of this idea. anyway, it would still take 4 more weeks before I start to whean them, im just planning ahead. :D

Would mixing raw with the kibble for the extra protein be an option for you?

yea if it would work, I'd try that if my pups are ready to handle raw foods.

I've never tried mixing two foods. I guess I've just never thought about it. I would probably go for adding something else to the food, rather than mixing two together.

The guy at my local feed store does mix 2 different kinds of food together. I can not remember which two. However, he did say that its working great for the dogs. I do not think that mixing is something i would try.

Like stated above, mixing in some raw for the lack of protein in Cannidae would IMO be better alternative. I feed Cannidae, so i know what u mean. I am gonna add some RAW and stick with my Vertex supplement.

The only thing I do is supplement with EVO to 2 specific dogs. One in particular has an autoimmune disorder/disease that has affected his GI tract and RAW is contraindicated in these dogs as they cannot properly fight off any bacteria, etc. that a normal dog can. So he gets his Merrick Wilderness with a 3/4 cup of EVO once a day.

I mix canidae with inova evo for the feed. It settles the protein at about 35%. Great results!

depends on what i'm trying to do, if i have a pregnant or nursing bitch i'll mix some puppy food with it, and some red cell, sometimes a can of food with it, to keep good nutrients, vitamins and keep weight on. if i'm trying to get a dog to lose fat, i'lll start mixing a lower fat, higher protein food.

thanks for the replies. maybe i'll try to feed canidae first and wait for the results before i decide if i have to mix something to it.
