what bloodline would be right for me?

Discussion in 'APBT Bloodlines' started by Sacredangel, Apr 10, 2007.

  1. I plan on getting another pit bull in the future, probably a few years from now. I am looking for one that has a good working drive. I plan on starting in weight pull and possibly a little conformation. I have an Australian Shepherd right now that I will be getting into agility. I am looking for a dog with a crazy amount of energy that can work for hours. This will be my first game bred pit bull so I am not too familiar with the bloodlines but I am learning as much as possible. I will settle for a more laid back bulldog if needed seeing as this will be my first experience with a game bred. My previous pit bulls were lazy petbulls who would fall out after an hour or so playing in the yard.

any ideas on what bloodline would be better for me and where I should start looking?

If you are looking for a "crazy" dog, try a Boudreaux dog. They are off the hook & can be very energetic & crazy. BUT ... the "crazy" ones are almost always highly dog aggressive, so be forwarned.

I would recommend finding a good breeder in your area, not just a good bloodline. Find a good person to help you personally pick out a certain dog or prospect that suits you best.

from what you are describing a game bred dog is not for you and deep inside you kind of know it.

Nobody can tell you what bloodline is best for you. That's something you'll need to work out through association and experience. I'm assuming by your post that you ended up getting rid of your last two dogs. What has changed in the last 3-4 months that you are now ready for a gamebred dog?

  6. I agree that a game-bred wouldnt suit your needs at all. I think your best bet would be to look into breeders who currently have weight pull champs and I'm sure if you find some weight pull forums they'll have tons of suggestions. Game bred dogs are best for hunting, bite work and things of that nature.....not for agility and weight pull. Good luck and keep us posted!

Actually, game bred dogs do very well in weight pull. I dunno about agility though! IMO a game bred dog in agility would be an accident waiting to happen!

Maybe I was wrong in my first assessment - perhaps a Lar-San dog would suit you better. They're not truly "game bred" any more, but they're wonderful at show, pulling & agility.

i was gonna suggest the same thing. great minds thing alike:D

  9. yes sadly i was forced to give up my two beautiful girls. i have always admired the gamebred pit bulls for their intensity and their looks. if you think a gamebred one wouldnt be right for me then i respect your opinion. i am still going to keep an open mind though and search around different breeders.

Does anyone know of anyone in alabama that could help me out? I know of TONS of BYBs and Puppy millers(I work with a few....ick) but they of course make me bring out my soap box. lol (one actually said Jeep and Redboy lines were crap, Gotti lines are real pit bulls...their recent litter was 80% gotti and the puppies were huge...gross)

I really want a small athletic pit bull. I most likely will not to agility with it. I like it for my aussie but not for a pit bull. I havent been too impressed with the pure weight pull dogs that I have seen. Anyone know of any breeders in specific?

oh also I do not want any AKC UKC dogs! I cant stand those! lol My aussie isnt even a registered one but she does come from mostly working lines(she is insane and has incredible engery!) and I would never own a show aussie! Show dogs are just to made-up for me. I always go with working bred

  10. Well the AKC dosnt have pit bulls and the UKC is the one that has game pit bulls so I'm not sure where your coming from there, wish I could help.
So basically you are looking for a small bred game pit to do weight pull?
That dosnt really make sense when he'll be going up against monster bullies that dominate that sport.......I'd love to help but I guess I dont know what you mean =(

UKC doesn't neccessarily have game APBTs. More PR show lines from what I've seen.

  12. Sorry I know I am being very confusing here.

I am wanting one just because I love them. I will do whatever I see fit with the dog's personality and work drive. I dont care if he did weight pull or not that is just something I MIGHT try just for the heck of it. I wouldnt care if I ended up never going to a competion with the dog.

  13. Well yea in this day thats who brings in the money......but the UKC's original intent was to register the game dogs specifically because the AKC wouldnt

  14. Oh I see! Ha ha, you just want one because of their drive and your pride for the breed! Alabama huh? I'll see what I can come up with! Good that you want to keep them busy, they really need stimulation or thats when they get into trouble.....I wish more people knew a tired dog is a good dog!

I can vouch for that one. When i spend all me free time in the yard, I have alot fewer incidents. It doesn't hurt that i give my dogs plenty of running room. They love the creek out back. That thing alone will wear them out. Rory is gonna be good for awhile then, that fatty.

In WP they compete against other dogs in their weight class not 100lb'ers.

  17. me too. Everyone I work with at the vet complain about their dogs pulling and acting up, well maybe if you actually exercised their mind and bodies once in a while they wouldnt!

  18. Haha, I didnt bring that topic in here because of shame (hangs head) give me two weeks and I'll undo all the threats my evil mother gave her, haha!

But you still haven't answered how your situation has improved that now you're ready for a new dog. Can you understand why people would be concerned? It was in December that you were on here discussing how you thought you were going to be able to keep one of your dogs, and now you have neither. Those are red flags to any breeder who cares.

  20. I just wanted to put a little input on the agility. Russ our secretary of our club Does agaility well his dogs are gamebred. They just need to be trained right. He said alot of obedience training is a must in them first and then you can try agility. just thougt I would give a little insite right from the source of someone that does it. He also said that the calmer the dog the better. He told me that magyar would be a perfect prospect for agility.
