Okay. Malachi gets these bumps under his coat. It looks like the skin is inflamed if that makes sense. He has had them before and they went away but they are back now and have not gone away. I took him to the vet and he said dogs skin get oily and that they are like pimples or acne. He said with time he will get better. His skin condition looks bad and I have taken some pictures and wanted to see what you all think. He does not have bumps on his stomach or anywhere else just under his coat. And the hair falls out a lot around these areas. Any ideas?? I feed Canidae and always have

a friend of mine has a white pitbull and he had the same thing he told the vet. and they said since the pitbull is white it is much easier to get sun burn wich could cause the bumbs. or the dog has very dry skin there is a lotion and shampoo you could use. the vet gave ( sold ) this lotion / and shampoo to my buddy and it work it took away the bumbs and his skin doesnt get as red no more

Could be allergies and or a skin infection

sounds like allergies! It is common for apbt to have allergies to grain, i would get him/her a grain free food and try that out! (innova evo, timberwolf-ocean blue & wild &natural) there also is a few other but i would try one of those first!

I am sure that the allergy is there for some, but to say that it is common for a bulldgo to have this allergy, I disagree with that. I have never had one that was allergic to grain.

I say get some sulfer and apply it. Or dip it in Kresso.

Sounds like you are describing hives. Hives are the result of an allergic reaction to something. It could be something your dog is grazing on in the backyard (which causes several of my dogs to break out in hives), something he's being fed, something he's coming in contact with via the skin or even an inhalent allergy.

Whenever he first breaks out, give him 1-2mg of Diphenhydramine (aka Benadryl) then repeat the dose 4 hours later. After that, keep on giving him the antihistamine twice a day until they go away.
(ex. if your dog is 50lbs, he can get 2 25mg tablets or 3 25mg tablets which I would personally do for the initial dose)

Just for the record, underdosing a dog with Diphenhydramine does nothing to help your dog. You must use recommened low dose at the least.

it isnt common at all bro, just like it isnt the majority of humans that are allergic to everything.

Well, malachi is never outside on the grass except to handle the business. He runs on concret and we go for walks on the side walk and of course he rides in the car other than that he is an inside lap dog ;) He just ran out of food yesterday so I think I will take your advice Mansch and change his food for the next 3 months and see if I notice a change. It wont hurt to give it a try. I will also take Miakoda's advice and give him the benadryl because he does scratch the hives a lot. I only give him a bath once every 5-6 weeks and I use an oatmeal shampoo and put frontline on after bath time. I also dry him with a blow dryer on low heat to make sure he gets all the way dry. Thanks everyone for all of your advice and support.

If you are doing a food trial it may take at least 8 weeks to see anything. Also Feed just the food. No treats unless it has the same exact ingredients.

Mike has contact allergies. I give him Fish Oil Capsules Omega 3 fatty acid suppliment ($3.50 at Walmart for 60) and Chlorpheniramine tablets ($2.50 at Walmart for 100) . I give 1 fish oil EOD (every other day) and I only give him 1 Chlorpheniramine when he breaks out. I saw him licking his paws and I have been giving him 1 everyday. I do not want to put him on steriods. So I try to manage it with antihistimines.

You can pick both of those up at the store. The vet I work for will charge like $30.00 for a prescription for each.

I'd say check diet and surroundings well..it sounds like an allergic reaction to something, possible ingested.
    Vet may prescribe anti-biotis/anti-inflamitory cycle.
Do a lot of research on common allergies in pits and try to start checking off the possibilities.
