bad trait???

I had a situation today when I was at the park. This one guy had a pit with this gigantic head. I thought it was a male, but it was a female. Plus the dog was short and stocky. He asked me if mine was a pit and I said yes, and he told me my dog's head was too small and that she wasn't big enough.(I'm thinking to myself, "what an idiot.") She's only 9 months old. He also said that was a bad trait and that I should look into some different bloodline. What gives.!!!! I just looked at him crazy. Now what do you guys think about this? Whats your opinion on head size? Do you like huge heads or small heads, and what do you think the advantage of either one would be. I think that my dog's head fitst her body. She's built for speed and strenght. To me it evens itself out.

 

you're dog looks fine to me. the guy was probally a know it all who does not know anything.

I think your dogs head is perfect for her body. It is said that the head of a pit should be about two thirds the size of the chest, but i think it really depends on the dog and what it looks like with thier build.

 

The guy sounds like he had an am. staff and wouldnt know a good bulldog if he was looking at one as he was with yours.

 

Hello??!! Don't you know pit bulls should weigh 160 plus, with heads at least 44 inches in diameter?! Did you say your dog was 9 months? Cause my newborns are that big...If you want to make her bigger feed her some babies and school children. Plus she looks too nice. Make her mean… <O:p

The only bad trait was the person directing those commets at you. What an a$$ By the way what a beautiful dog. The 1st picture when she looks up reminds me of my dog.

 

I think that most people believe that the size of the head determines the size of the bite.This is so not true,my male has a brother with a head twice the size of my dogs(at least twice) and my dog has a way harder mouth.Looks can be deceiving.I say the big head is just extra weight the dogs got to carry around and doesn't offer any advantage accept to look tuff.

 

I guess alot of people are misinformed. Like I mentioned before, this is by 1st and I have seen some dogs that look like pitbull and are gigantic. I always that was the standard of these dogs to be like 100 pounds with a big head. Then when I found this site I noticed that isnt the case for these dogs. Someone on my street has a dog that he says is a pit and it looks like a monster. So i think a lot of people think that they are all like that, and when they see one that does not look like they have pictured in their mind they make statements like that? just my rant.

Yep..your dog looks just fine. That guy doesnt know squat Overly large heads (oversize ) heads are whats a fault .. they should be in proportion to the body and bone structure of the dog.

 

Thanks for your input guys. I was like damn what a punk.LOL Oh well. I forgot to add. Then later he comes out with a I guess it was a pitbull. Check this out. This dog looked like a pit right, but the way he stood was the same stance of a HYENA!!! It had long front legs and the back legs were soo damn short. And it walked just the way a hyena would. Now what kind of dog would that be. Oh and he said it was full grown too, the damn dog looked no bigger than my aunts Cocker Spaniel. lol I just shook my head and kept walking by. LOL

HE probably had one of those " Exotic" pocket pits...you know the type, all muscled up but cant jump on the couch, your dog lookd fine to me, and good luck with it!

 

this was in 04, the dogs probobly not even alive anymore.....
