She just might be getting ready to come in or she may be having a silent heat. I'm sure there is a way for a vet to find out but down where I am none of the vets here do so ...

I'm glad the sheltie is doing OK, I'll bet his mom won't let him run loose any more!

Don't worry we all have made at least one mistake in our time w/ the dogs but don't let their sweet demeanor fool you - as we found they can "turn on" at any time.

But live & learn. So long as you follow the rules everything will be OK. ;)

Word of caution. If her parts are swollen, and she's not bleeding, she could be at the time when she is most receptive to males. Keep her inside or at least within your field of vision until you know for sure.

we went to the vet today. the sheltie is ok. he had 2 collapsed lungs that they had to repair and alot of sutures. they said his biggest issue now is hemoglobins (sp) and his kidneys. They are keeping him till at least saturday.

The dogs owner came in while we were there. not much was said.

Everyone at the vet agreed with what was posted here in that the dog was in our yard.

We talked to the vet about the dog being in heat and they said she should be in heat by now at 9 months and said she may just be starting and male dogs are the first to know. She has an appointment for Tuesday to get spayed.

My dog used to live with a 'pit bull' as its owner described it (looked like a lab cross and acted like a pig bully) and was very tolerant of the abuse that it wreaked upon him. Occassionally he would snap at the pig bully and it would flee the area.

One day a female came into heat. Although the pig bully was neutered it deemed that the female was his possession. Came up to my dog while it was trying to get the female's attention and was peremptorily chomped, fled downstairs and did not show up until the morning when he snuck out from under a table hiding place to menace my dog, yet again.

My dog didn't attack back but the pig bully kept its distance whenever the female was around.
Good thing humans don't act like that. (chortle)

Just keep reminding your dog that "NO" is the answer to fighting. You'll see it in his demeanour when he's thinking about it. Pavlov used the bell to show that dogs could respond to stimulii indicating the approach of feeding. Pavlovian use of the "NO" word will remind the dog not to fight. The one proviso is that you have to be there to tell it to act according to how you want it to act.

Sounds like a great dog. Too bad the female has to suffer.

  7. listen you can shoot whatever you like. i can tell them they are an idiot if i like. it's my opinion to say so just like you feel it's your right to lip off about shooting. sounds to me like your a bunch of big hot air. shoot somebody and quit with the lip and see how fast you land in jail. tresspassing is against the law but doesn't give you the right to shoot them. i would personally never trespass nor let my dog end up in the situation of having to defend my actions i knew were wrong as he admitted. so my point is all your blowhard talking may impress other people but i stand by my original comment. thank you.

Hey BoogiemanBlood, sometimes you gotta kinda overlook Attila, he's like...our maskot here. Allot of times he puts to voice what some feel like doing, just wont say or do. And sometimes, he gets...well...out there man!! Main thing I have learned about these forums is this,(and me and jeeperino just cemented it better today, I think) You really cant hear laughter, humor or hatred and anger with these typed letters. I cant count the times I have jumped conclusions on folks, and they never meant to attack me, of course some do. And I cant count how many times people take me the wrong way, of course, that happens to me in real life!! Once I posted an appalogy on another forum. I thought the mods on there crazy as they told me to remove my sig pic, said I was trying to sell Jesus(as if a person could do that!!), anyway, I changed it to a picture of some steaming poo! Well, I offended some folks and put a thread up saying I was wrong and how Jesus wouldnt have done this, and man! I cant tell you how many folks began to bash me saying that I should not be judging them!!
    Peace

Yeah, that is a common secular argument. But if I remember right it says we ARE to judge our Christian brothers, so long as they are Christian. If they are not Christian the Bible also tells us to tell the truth in love & if person is being a turd well ... :D

Plus, did not Jesus even call some of the people of his day what he thought they were - hypocrites, vipers & whitewashed tombs?

A lot of ppl like to pick & choose out of the Bible & only use what fits their agenda. lol.

But back to the dogs - it appears that this situtation is resolved. The AB is to be fixed & I highly doubt the sheltie will ever come calling again.

But you must remember that as a bulldog owner it is WE who are responsible for keeping our dogs from hurting other critters. There ARE irresponsible pet owners out there who will let their dogs roam hither & yon & even in the case of responsible owners mistakes sometimes happen, a kid leaves the front door open or the back gate wasn't latched right, whatever.

But we as pit bull owners will be the ones who are looked at, so we have to make super double extra sure things won't happen b/c it will be us & our dogs who are scrutinized, even if the fault lies w/ someone else. :(

That's one of the most brutally honest thing i've ever read on here ! I have a neighborhood male Rotti that used to go into my back yard until one of my males decided it was time to teach him about prison love . I came home from work and his neck was in my dogs mouth and he was taking it like a good cell mate should !

Your right about the pick and choose. I hear they got a new bible out now. It is the erasable bible. When you read a verse you dont like, erase it!
Yes, Paul said we judge our brothers, but not the world. I do not ever recall reading that we are" to tell the truth in love". Could be wrong. Allot of times today the worlds definition of love and God's is 2 different things. I would love to have conversation w/you about Jesus, maybe you could pm me before Iget r-u-n-n-o-f-t! Had a Canadian member who believed in freedom of religion, so long as I didnt talk about King Jesus!
That there vers 22 in Mathew is very strong. say it on a video bible, and it had never impacted me like that before. Must always remember that following God is on a balance beam. Dont get me wrong, I do not condone sin! I better stop!Later

At my house, the drive looks like a dirt road, and there is a fence on both sides. So if an animal gets in my yard(of which the whole property is fenced), noone sees what happens, and it is my legal right to eliminate the animal in whatever means I deem necessary. Now, I have to let my concience by my guide. I guess the biggest problem I have with other animals is that there are 3 german shepoards and one great dane, off the leash, and running wild(no leash law out here). Well they doi not bother me leaving to go, but everytime I come back from preaching at the prison(on my bike) they try and bite me,, and wreck me. All three have different tactics too, which makes it very dangerous. The owner is not concerned and kinda a jerk about it. I have bad wanted to get into my flesh and feed them something. I have bought some rat shot though, and next time I will just use my 22 pistol and fire them up. Hopefully they will hear me coming after that and leave me alone!!

OT, but Purple, my dad does prison ministry! I believe he's at Hunt Correctional. My grandfather, my dad's dad, was a good ole fashioned Southern Baptist preacher. :)

    Yes I did. :)

I'll ask him. He's been doing prison ministry for about 3 years now. He also does stuff at Angola occasionally. Now if we can only keep my brothers outta there..... ;)

Yea, I go to Angola from time to time also. There was a time I couldn't stay out! Then I became a fugative, for 14 years!! Thank god for mercy!! I do hope that the day will come that He'll take what the devil meant for harm and turn it into their good!! Just think about it, He takes the foolish things of this world to confuse the wise. So, the folks who knew me back then, are scratchin their heads now at what the Lord has done and is doing with mylife. Same for them!
I'll add them to our prayer list!!

Ya know, if Jesus would've had a dog, it would've been a pitbull. Loyal, affectionate, trustworthy, self sacrificing,...yea, He'd have a bulldog!

  17. ya know sometimes i get the same way but as i've grown older i've grown a little wiser. i really didnt mean to make anyone mad and i prbly shouldn't have called the guy an idiot or whatever it was i called him but the OP had as much blame as the other dog owner IMO. i've seen some of Atilla's other posts and you're right they get a little on the wild side sometimes. i just get so tired of BSL which i've labeled "BULL SHIT LEGISLATION" cuz of accidents like this. fault or no fault these are the kinds of incidents that get the community you live in stirred up enough to get the talk started. i too was a noob once but am now into the confirmation showing and trying to represent the breed well. it's not that i'm a hater i'm just passionate about trying to bring the image up for the breed if that would ever be possible. my neighbors are very accepting of my dogs and all have been socialized with them alot. now if my dogs ate one of theirs obviously i'm sure the public opinion pole for my dogs would drop dramatically. sure you're gonna have a few common sense folks say "well the dog shouldn't have been in his yard" but we all know what the majority is gonna say. simply put.............1 accident is 1 accident too many. just my thoughts! sorry again if i pissed anybody off.

Attila, sorry if I'm not picking up if you're being sarcastic, but why would you just shoot any dog that walked onto your property since you may not know the reason why it was able to in the first place? What if that were somebody's cherished pet, and it simply managed to dig it's way under a fence, what if some careless visitor had left the gate open on the dog's property? I had a dog stolen right off of my property, and I only found her again because the s.o.b that did it let her walk the streets freely afterwards. What if the wondering dog was in that situation, it could easily walk onto your property and you'd just shoot it? It might only take five minutes of your time to find out who owned it if you rang your local dog control.

What about if the dog walked onto your property and gave your dogs parvo. Vaccines are not guarantees, just a first line of defense. What if(and apparently this dog is not a one time johnny)the dog keeps coming to your place and keeping you up at night. What if the dog poops on your front door step every night? What if....

Hey, that word is kinda big huh? IF. Amazing. The thing is, IF one of my beloved dogs got loose, and IF the neighbor shot the dog, heartbroke as I'd be, IT would be MY fault!!

Let me ask this. IF a frog had pockets,....would he pack pistols for snakes?

i dont know but if a frog had wings he would not bump his ass when he hopped. I have to agree with attila on the shooting dogs on your yard. I had a bitch put up in a pen and on a chain and found a mutt in the pen with her. My .270 did the talking that day. It seems that people with good intentions, however ignorant, cause as many problems with this breed as bad owners. I would never dream of letting any of my dogs loose and watch them at all times when i let one run in our 2+ acre fenced in yard. Electric collars can be good training tools but never a restraint. I too have neighbors that just let their dogs run loose on the street i live. probably would have had some real problems if i did not use chains inside a fence to keep my dogs. The more you know the more you realize you don't know sh*t. KEEP READING and talking to good people about this breed and you will be fine.
