Not enough "work" making dog sick?

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by Silverpearl, Sep 13, 2006.

  1. Not enough "work" making dog sick?

I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue my dog has. The vet can't find anything physically wrong with him, but he'll just get sick and start throwing up for (apparently) no reason. It usually doesn't last any longer than a week, but it comes and goes.

I've started writing everything down...and I mean everything! I chart how much he eats, what he eats, how much exercise he gets, when and how often he throws up, etc. The vet just wants to keep him on steroids or antibiotics but it doesn't help at all. Through all this I've noticed that how good he feels depends on how hard he's been worked that week. When it's raining or when I'm working a lot is when he seems to start getting sick. I really seem to think that there is a direct relation between not getting enough exercise and getting sick. Is that a possibility? Could the stress of not being worked enough cause a dog to be sick? Any help would be appreciated!

ASK THEM TO CHECK HIS LIVER PROFILE. MY ANIMAL WOULD VOMIT ALL THE TI ME, AND IT TURN ED OUT TO BE THAT.

Vitamine E and C twice daily and some thing to calm him down Try benadryl once a day

I guess I should tell you why eh. E promotes cell division in the organs including skin age defiers use E. C helps detox the liver. The anti histamine will tell you if it is allergy related.

Thanks for the replies. He is a house dog and he is currently on allergy dog food. If he does have allergies to something in the house that may explain why he starts to feel better being outside all the time. The vets are totally lost on this. They've taken x-rays and bloodwork and came back with nothing except "Let's put him on Flagyl, or steroids, or Zantac." It's frustrating!

I'll have to ask the vet if she's done a liver profile. His x-rays show (according to her) that his intestines don't sit right in his body. This isn't a constant problem either, it is so intermittent. He was doing good all this month but started getting sick again as soon as it got rainy outside. It averages about one week out of every month, and it's been going on for about a year. I'm taking him to the vet soon for his yearly shots/exam, but I really think I'm going to have to take him to a $pecialist soon. He got a good workout yesterday when the weather cleared up and was feeling great! I'm hoping the vet can refer me to someone who knows what's wrong with my dog though. I may as well try the Benadryl/vitamins to see if it could help him out. It's worth a shot. Wish him luck!

maybe u should try a chain setup outside for a while and see how that turns out. It sounds like there is something in the house that makes him sick. Also maybe switching foods might help, even consider a raw diet, i've heard it does wonders for dogs with allergies to food.

I wish I could, I really do. He dislikes being left in the house, but living outside of Detroit, I am not going to take the risk of him being stolen. In a few years I hope to be moving out into the country but for now he's stuck inside. I know being left in the house is a stress factor for him, and while my Chesapeake Bay retreiver would relieve that stress by tearing my furniture apart, he just chooses to do nothing. I've been looking into feeding him a raw diet as well. I'm not too knowledgable on that yet but I've been doing my research. I do know a breeder of Polish Lowland sheepdogs who feeds raw, I might have to have a discussion with her on where to start. Thanks!
